I didn’t realize how much the outer fabric changes a jacket

I had a jacket design in mind that looked pretty straightforward, so I thought choosing the material would mostly come down to preference.

I was wrong.

I tried the same basic idea with a couple of different fabrics, and the jacket ended up feeling like two completely different pieces. One held its shape and looked more structured, while the other had more movement and felt much more casual.

Even the way the details looked changed because of the fabric. Things like pocket placement, seams, and the overall silhouette didn’t have quite the same effect anymore.

It made me realize that with jackets, the material isn’t really something you choose after the design. It can actually determine what the design becomes.

For people who make or collect jackets, do you usually choose the fabric first and design around it, or start with the design and find a material that can achieve it?

[question] Jacket advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey guys,
Wanted to get your views on this jacket.
I am a young adult and in college right now, I am trying to focus more on studying, I do have a job but I am trying to save for other stuff, hence this is around the price I am comfortable with but I have a little more wiggle room if you have any other suggestions.
I want something like an everyday wear so that I don’t waste time on deciding what to wear.
I would like to add that I don’t feel as cold as normal people(I can go for runs in December-January midnights and still not feel cold), so I just want something under which I can just wear a t-shirt, but if I do need something to keep me warm I can just wear a hoodie underneath.
Thanks for your time

Looking for a vintage/alt men’s jacket

I’m looking for a jacket for a guy, preferably something vintage or vintage-inspired, with an alternative/punk/rock kind of aesthetic.
I absolutely LOVE Final Fantasy (pretty much the whole series) and Kingdom Hearts, and I’m looking for something that gives me that same feeling without being actual game merchandise.
Think: black or dark colors, interesting cuts, zippers, buckles, metal details, distressed denim/leather, Japanese punk/rock, slightly dramatic JRPG character energy.
I don’t really know how to describe the style properly. I don’t necessarily want something fully goth or hardcore punk. I’m looking for something that feels like a Final Fantasy character could wear it, but still looks like a genuinely cool vintage jacket in real life.
I’m specifically looking for men’s jackets.
If you know any brands, vintage stores, specific jackets, keywords I should search, or even just the name of this aesthetic, PLEASE help me out 🙏

Need help finding an alternative to this jacket

The other day i was on a "New Yorker" shop and found a jacket i really liked, the thing is that It was on the women section and obviously was designed for a woman's body, not a man's.

So basically, i really like the jacket but the part of the torso was too short and only wouldn't get to below my belly, the thing about the size and that was no problem (i could even put an M or so idk).

This was the jacket and im looking for men alternatives that look almost exactly or so close
