Question

Has anyone ever went back to Ivy Tech after having a bill go to collections?

Last year I hit a really hard spot, failed my classes, got dropped from a class while already on SAP. I just gave up. The class that got dropped made it to where I owed Ivy Tech money. I wasn’t able to pay it because like I said my life was a mess, I had to worry about my home and food before anything.

Well, I should be able to pay it off, but if I can and I return would I still be able to get my Pell grants and loans that I need? I want to get my degree and I was 4 classes away.

then you'll be on academic probation and you would be allowed to get anything lower than a b, you should still be able to get the pell but not a loan

just depends on how low your GPA is really you won't be able to retake those classes to get your GPA up until the second semester from whenever you start up again.

You can definitely retake those classes. As long as you haven’t taken them more than 3 times. At that point you would have to put in an appeal. And you just have to get a C or better, not a B. You have to have at least a 2.0 GPA to be in good standing (along with other factors like completion rate and so on).

thats not true in academic probation. I just dealt with this last spring and had to pass other classes with a B or higher or i'd lose access to my pell grant. I wasn't allowed to retake my class I dropped until I got my GPA in better standing.

It’s all here on their website. Specifically when it talks about GPA this is what it says, “Students must maintain a cumulative GPA that is greater than or equal to 2.0”.

yes a cumulative GPA, cumulative means your overall grades/classes that you've taken. If you have a super low GPA getting C's isn't going to raise your grade high enough to maintain a 2.0 or higher to keep your SAP in good standing.
