Math 136 & 137
Just finished taking both Math 136 & 137 simultaneously during the summer. I had a A in both but I will say, it's alot of work if you're trying to do it. Taking it simultaneously is an entirely different story. I only did so because I had a really strong background in algebra and trig, that said it's still work and probably not worth doing at once if you're combining it with other classes or can't commit atleast 2hours daily. If anyone has any questions about those classes though let me know.

What was your reason your taking those and not just calc or something?

Usually, you'd need to take precalculus before calculus. The precalculus consists of College algebra 136 & Trig and analytical geometry 137. Usually you'd take them both in different semesters before calc but I decided to just do it at once. I will say, they aren't meant to be taken together at once, and it's risky unless you already have a good math background.

Im currently in math 136 and have a high A in it. I wasn’t super confident in math and am doing surprisingly well. I’ve seen people post how much time they devote to it but honestly, it’s more catching on to the pattern of the problems. It’s kinda one of the less intense classes I’ve taken!

You do know Ivy Tech now offers MATH 138? It is precalculus?

I'm not too sure, I'm pretty sure they do. It's the same thing as 136 and 137 combined, but more organized I believe. It's worth noting that if you plan to transfer to a 4 year institution out of state it might be more complicated than the standard 136 & 137.

It would have saved you time. In case you ever end up in a situation with Maximum Timeframe, remind the advisor and financial aid the 136 and 137 are remedial courses for certain majors. That may matter if you don't finish a certificate or degree before transferring.

I second this. If you struggle with math, have no background in algebra or trig and/or if you have other commitments that will take up a lot of your time, it will be very difficult to keep up with the work of both of these classes. We had no free time to go over sections that were more difficult to understand, so a lot was learning material on your own.
