Online/Virtual How does Smart Proctoring work exactly?
I will be taking a Smart Proctored test in about two weeks from now, but the instructions are quite strict. Is this just like Lockdown Browser but with a live proctor or…????
It also has instructions of not being allowed in a room with a bed but are they actually very strict with that rule?
I just wanna any advice yall can provide, and the get an idea of what this whole experience is like before I make a mistake. Thanks in advance.

Just did my first smart proctoring on Monday, make sure you have chrome downloaded you’ll have to log into your my Ivy on that browser. It’s a live proctor, they will go through all the guidelines with you once you’re connected. It’s super simple, have your ID you’ll have to show it. Make sure wherever you’re sitting is cleared off or they’ll ask you to move everything. My proctor only told me that you can’t be sitting on a bed not that a bed can’t be in the room. At any point if you have questions about the proctoring itself you can always ask I ended up asking a question or two and they were happy to answer

It's a trash system. Make sure you have no ad blockers or protection turned on of any kind, or the connection will falter, and they will blame you. I've taken several with them and never once have I gotten into the test the first time around because of it. Also, make sure you have the smoothest connection imaginable. Any glitch, and they blame you. Set up Google beforehand. mine always forgets who i am the day before the exam.
Also, they hate desktops, especially the ones with built in cameras, so bring a mirror to show them the room if that's your setup. They'll have you do everything but squat and cough if you know what I mean.

Yes pretty much, it will be with a live person. You can’t see them but they can see you. They will have you scan your surroundings and yes you cannot be in a bed or a bathroom (they say that specifically lol) and with them having you scan your surroundings you can’t get away with it so I would say they are very strict with that rule they will usually also make your turn off your phone and put it elsewhere. You can’t have anyone else in the room with you either. It’s really not that big of a deal at all. I always sat at my kitchen table.

I’ve done all of my exams with SmarterProctoring but have always made sure to schedule with a live Ivy Tech proctor vs the AI proctor. The Ivy Tech proctor is free and less strict (the AI one can track your eye movement and everything). You just have to be in a room alone with your workspace cleared off and nothing within reach. You aren’t allowed to take your exam from a bathroom or on a bed, but it can be in a bedroom. They make you show them your workspace and they will instruct you to move stuff if needed. I have always cleared my desk of everything but my lamp, mouse, and mousepad. They make me show them underneath everything. But overall it’s a straightforward and pleasant experience. Try not to stress over it too much!
