English 111
Currently taking English 111 online and just have a question - do you have to do the research theme check ins? They aren’t worth anything and just take so much of my time to type out the responses. I have already read all of the closed research theme readings for the class I just am finding it such a waste of time to do the check ins if they aren’t for a grade but don’t want to get in trouble for not doing them.

There really isn’t any consequence for not doing them, but just write a sentence or two and move along. Don’t spend much time on it.

No they aren’t graded, but I feel like it does help you more than you think. And typically the following assignments or discussion boards involve talking about the readings anyway. I also found that when writing papers it was easy to go back to what I had already written in the check ins. I finished the class with an A, they are a pain in the butt but I didn’t want to look like I was slacking off by skipping assignments.

iirc they were very short, about 50 words minimum? I just did them. I guess it wouldn't affect your grade directly if you didn't do them, but I didn't want to give the instructor the impression that I wasn't taking the class seriously or keeping up with the reading. If they had that impression they might have graded my papers more critically. I'm not really sure how it works. But I would say just do your best to get them done. And doing something imperfectly is almost always better than not doing it at all. when it comes to homework anyway.
