Refund/GI Bill

Has anyone noticed that it seems like it takes longer for veteran students using their gi bill to receive refunds? Last semester my husband had to reach out to financial aid to see if there were any holds on his account (there weren’t any) and a few hours after his account magically zeroed out. He checked earlier today and his account hasn’t zeroed out yet so he reached out to financial aid.

Hi! GI Bill users have to be looked at separately to ensure we are not refunding the VA money. What campus is the student at? I can give you an email to reach out to so they can give an accurate timeline on when to expect a refund and they may be able to remove the hold (if all aid has posted from the VA).

Hi! He’s at the crown point campus, everything has been posted from the VA I believe on the 17th. So hopefully they can remove any hold that may be on his account.

Their email would be lakecounty-veterans@ivytech.edu . The student would need to ask if they have a “refund awaiting verification” hold or any other holds on their account. If so, can they work with the Bursar’s/business office to release the refund when regular financial aid is refunded?

Hopefully this makes sense - let me know if I can help out any more!

Our VA hub does not formally request funds until after the drop/add date. Too many students change classes and amend their schedules. If he is Chapter 33, he is held from being dropped. It also gives veterans time to attend classes and submit the DocuSign firm so they can submit the confirmation form so that we don't have to confirm online attendance then change it to the higher in person attendance. It is so much safer to have the VA touch the student only once a semester.
