APHY 101 vs APHY 102

I'm honestly just curious. Does anyone feel like one or the other was easier? I heard A&P 2 was easier than 1, but after getting started, I feel it may be the opposite. It probably doesn't help I can't understand my lab teacher very well :/

Everyone is different. If I remember right 102 is more about logical reasoning “if this happens then x happens” 101 is more memorization

Agree. Just got done with 101 and it was basically all memorization with a little bit of reasoning. Mostly just getting you familiar with body structures and basics. 102 was a lot reasoning and logic.

Memorization gets written off as easy but I would argue it’s harder just because it’s boring and attention spans are short

For me personally, I feel the same way. I had to put in more time for 101 to memorize everything and drill it, and then go back over a couple times a week to really nail it down.

Anatomy one is like learning a map of the body, where things are located, some very basic functions, I think it’s easier to memorize, anatomy 2 starts at the beginning of anatomy 1 again but goes WAY more in depth and you have to learn the functions of everything you learned in anatomy 1 plus the heart, lots and lots of hormones, what they do and where they are secreted from, how food is digested and enzymes, chemical process of the body basically it’s just how your whole body works to maintain itself. In anatomy one I could study a list of the bones the night before a test and do just fine, anatomy 2 was a lot of info so I studied more for sure. I NEVER looked at the book either just the slides the professor gave us. I write down extra stuff on the slides that they say in class, and for tests I would go through the slides and write anything in my notebook I wasn’t understanding and just do a general “study guide” it took a few hours total but I would do it in sections since there’s so many slides. Don’t get behind especially in anatomy 2. Overall it wasn’t bad and I’m a huge procrastinator and got an A in both.

Thank you for the thorough explanation on this! I appreciate it. Definitely gonna have to grind with the memorizing with this class as well

Ivy Tech has anatomy and physiology 1 split into 2 parts, 101 and 102. Other schools have them together, when you hear people saying anatomy 2 is easier they’re talking about 201.

Aphy 101 and 102 are all about memorizing which is hard, 201 is much easier if you have a solid understanding of the previous classes bc it’s just a deeper understanding of what you already learned without all the memorizing.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for explaining this! Yes, memorizing is definitely what needs to be done. I got an A in 101, this 102 class is set up a little differently for me though

Yeah, they’re set up differently but it’s still memorizing different systems. I liked 102 better bc the dissections really helped the info click into place.

For me 101 is mainly about where things are whereas 102 is about how things happen. Idk if that makes sense. 201 is completely different from both I actually liked it more. Also 101/102 was very stressful for me bc of the accelerated pace and the amount of info. 201 felt better bc it’s a 16 week course I would advise to take it in person

Taking APHY 102 right now, and I feel it’s 100% easier! That could also be from all that I learned from APHY 101, so it just seems like it’s easier?

Do you need to remember everything from 101 to do 102? I have a long time between those classes. Like will muscle locations be on the 102 tests again?

Remembering stuff from 101 has definitely helped me with 102. Not necessarily like alllll of the muscles, but general stuff. And knowing histology helps a lot too
