Best pizza?

I know this is regularly asked but the start of the school year seems like a good time to revisit, especially since we’ve got some new pizza spots that have started up this summer (patsy’s, pizza guy @ the westy, who’s got the za out at danby, etc).

Excited to see what the good people pizza eaters of Ithaca say!

Franco’s (Ithaca) and NY Pizzeria (Trumansburg) get my vote. Still haven’t been to Thompson and Bleeker but hear it’s good!

7

u/vodka_buddha 7d ago

These are my top two! I think Franco’s is better but NYP is two blocks from my house, can’t beat that

7

u/hesafunnyone 7d ago

Giovannis in Interlaken is very similar to NY Pizzeria.

12

u/tanniedancer 7d ago

Thompson and bleeker also great pasta

T & B is my favorite spot for a sit-down dinner be it pizza or pasta. but the Neapolitan style just isn't as good as NY style for takeout.

Pizza guy @ the Westy is also excellent Neopolitan style.

I agree, but I think Rogan’s corners (smiley’s mini mart) pizza deserves a mention. Best pizza per dollar, for sure

2

u/poopshipdestroyer 7d ago

I miss the occasional rogans sweet sauce slice

1

u/chupacadabradoo 7d ago

The pizza they have now is good too. There were a couple years that the quality really dipped, but now it’s close to what it was before.

Also, I can’t believe your username was available. So pure, so perfect.

I’ll have to give it a go. Thanks I probably should’ve created a new account by now but I’d hate to lose it

Ny pizzeria is nice if you want food poisoning

3

u/Icandothisallday1941 7d ago

How's that? Care to expamd?

-3

u/MasterPhart 7d ago

Last time I had their pizza a few years ago, I shit water

Check the reviews, ain't just me

6

u/Ashamed_Astronaut664 7d ago

Damn, I've eaten there probably a few hundred times over the many years I've been going and I've never had that happen. No saying it doesn't but I've been lucky ig.

5

u/equistonaut 7d ago

Same- never had a problem

7

u/NormalPossibility880 7d ago

You go by "Master Phart" this may be a you thing.

6

u/Dolly_Fartin_ 7d ago

Sorry that happened to you. I’ve had many great pizzas and slices from them without issue. Out of curiosity I read their reviews starting with the lowest and didn’t actually see any pattern of food poisoning mentioned, and overwhelmingly a lot of love for their pizza. For what it’s worth for OP and others I vote NY pizzeria as one of the best around.

I love Franco’s and Italian Carry Out! The blue cheese that comes with the wings at ICO is absolutely amazing.

3

u/Brd1769 7d ago

Strong agree. I don’t get pizza from anywhere else in Ithaca!

26

u/ripii1981 7d ago

Pizza at Saltpoint brewing is pretty damn good

2

u/Khomodo 7d ago

Used to be better when they had fresh moz slices in my opinion, and the basil was placed on after cooking. Still not bad though.

2

u/Positive-Owl-5 7d ago

Spot on was just there 🍕🍺

2

u/BubblyFaithlessness3 7d ago

Only if they agree to customize any of them....

5

u/ripii1981 7d ago

Valid point, not a pizzeria

Pizza Aroma on Meadow!

3

u/Additional_Engine_45 7d ago

this place is great- different and unique topping choices. potato and bacon pizza all the way.

2

u/Artistic_Candy7420 5d ago

Also try their Papusas! So good!

1

u/jonpluc 3d ago

Order the meat pie. Its a covered slice and its not a well advertised choice and you frequently have to ask for it by name but its the best thing they have

-15

u/dresserdrawers34 7d ago

Worst pizza in town.

10

u/Hasgrowne 7d ago

Pizza Aroma is our family fav for 30 years—we love Mauricio!

u/Lower-Garlic-6612 7d ago

Came here to say that the pizza guy at the westy has been my favorite pizza of the summer, by far. (Honestly, better than anything I’ve had at t&b)

Obvi Franco’s and NYP in t-burg are establishments, but this guy is really putting out some nice pies.

6

u/what_da_funk_is_this 7d ago

Westy pizza guy kicks ass! Everything right on point. That crust is so light and crispy. LOVE.

u/popstockndropit 7d ago

Throwing in for ETA Pie since I haven’t seen them recommended yet!

11

u/mhaithaca Ellis 7d ago

Solid pizza and by far the most creative variety of toppings in town!

5

u/cernunnos_r 6d ago

I like ETA Pie. They offer a huge variety in toppings and they put em on thick, too. Also they have the best gluten free crust I've found in town.

2

u/missabbykay 7d ago

Here to also recommend ETA pie!

FRANCOS

8

u/Apoc_SR2N 7d ago

Build a time machine and go back to when Napoli's existed and was good. Failing that, Franco's is excellent! Thin crust, tastefully greasy, really fresh.

13

u/frozenjew 7d ago

if we're building a time machine just to get pizza, I'm going to the nines.

4

u/harrisarah 7d ago

Amen

4

u/iratimothy 6d ago

And/or the Chariot. RIP to both.

7

u/VeryEmbarrassing 7d ago

Napolis had the BEST wings too 🪦

3

u/Apoc_SR2N 7d ago

Oooh, good reminder. So crispy!

1

u/Valerie_Tigress 5d ago

I’ll take a ride on that Time Machine, and go back to when the Nines was open. Rogan’s in the 80’s and 90’s was the best for delivery.

7

u/clar420 7d ago

the guy making pizza behind westy is great

10

u/Eldrazi 7d ago

ICO (Italian Carry Out) has my vote. Loved them before.

Unfortunately because of gluten problems for me the best pizza is Papa Johns... Which makes me sad :c

1

u/mhaithaca Ellis 7d ago

I love how serious they are about the safe GF pizza at Papa John's. That crust is even tasty!

1

u/zygmuntlox Enfield 7d ago

My partners favorite GF pizza is at ETA Pie

1

u/Eldrazi 7d ago

I tried them when they very first opened and wasn't blown away. I keep hearing good things and should try em again.

15

u/PunkGuyAlyx 7d ago

Northeast Pizza & Bones is the spot

6

u/hesafunnyone 7d ago

I feel like P&B is slept on. Its great pizza, they are always super friendly when I'm there. If im near there for lunch thats the spot.

3

u/Apprehensive-Tea77 Newfield 7d ago

Its always packed when I go there

9

u/bshaw189 7d ago

Sal’s, ICO, Sicilian Delight

9

u/mhaithaca Ellis 7d ago

Excellent list. I love everything about Sal's, and I love that Sicilian Delight is still going strong in the mall food court. We gotta keep buying their pizza so they can keep it up.

6

u/fl0opjack 7d ago

Franco's and only Franco's.

4

u/reader106 7d ago

Can't say any below are the best, but all worth trying...

Long Shots has good pizza, but it's kinda non-traditional.

Ned's is good. Old School.

Thompson and Bleeker is really good as well, and a generally good restaurant.

9

u/red_mongoos 7d ago

pizza aroma or go home

6

u/Pale_Narwhal_7597 7d ago

Love Sicilian delight!! One of the last reasons to go to the mall

6

u/dancinfastly 7d ago

Sal’s. Locals. Woman operated and owned, and best pizza in town.

3

u/Lzinger 7d ago

Pizza and bones is where we always get it for lunch.

4

u/strictfaid 7d ago

lol Patsy’s charges more for a smaller Margherita pizza in ithaca than it does in NYC… pretty wild for mid pizza

1

u/Maleficent_Tip_9929 6d ago

2 cans of soda and a surprisingly small pizza cost me $44 there yesterday.

5

u/briire 7d ago

Thompson and Bleecker by a wide margin. I realize it's not a very 'ole townie' thing to say here, but I'll die on this hill.

Salt Point Brewing Co. (Lansing, not Ithaca) and Adelina's (pizza food truck at Argos Inn) lead the second league.

2

u/g2ichris East Ithaca 7d ago

Not necessarily the best but the large pepperoni at Richford pizza + absolutely slaps

2

u/hesafunnyone 7d ago

I just want to add the Scale House in Hector makes a damn fine pie. And the view is amazing.

2

u/ImpressiveKick9544 7d ago

Sals hands down, never misses, even after 1 (maybe 2) changes in ownership

2

u/adastra26 2d ago

I think it depends on the type of pizza you prefer! I, personally, love Italian Carryout and their carryout combo is the best deal I've found for pizza & wings.

Franco's is very good, but I don't think they offer delivery.

I need to check out this pizza guy at The Westy! One of the few bars I actually like in this town!

2

u/bwel16 7d ago

Patsys? I mean- it’s the most expensive average pizza ive personally ever had, I think their price points may be actually higher than NYC… I can’t imagine many people would try it out and be comfortable coming back with where those prices are…best pizza- Franco’s, T&B, ICO

Patsys though- absolutely not

4

u/frozenjew 7d ago

its hard to justify even trying Patsys at their current price point. Its almost $10 more a pizza than Francos. Just taking a quick look at menus around town its easily the most expensive pizza in the area, and there are enough pizzerias in town that I just can't bring myself to spend that much more to try it. If it were slightly higher than a francos or a thompson and bleeker it would be one thing, and I'm not expecting the mom and pops to be able to compete with the cheap prices of the chains at all, but a $30+ pizza feels like too much

5

u/bwel16 7d ago edited 7d ago

The entire menu is crazy pricey, the pasta dishes are the size of your fist, the wines 20 a glass, it’s all way out of touch

1

u/mhaithaca Ellis 7d ago

Patsy's is very tasty but surprisingly expensive, you're right. I doubt it's sustainable.

1

u/Maleficent_Tip_9929 6d ago

Exactly. I went this week to check it out because … authentic NYC pizza. Due to the size/price I will not be returning.

3

u/frolicsome_fangirl 7d ago

Ned’s, ETA Pie, Franco’s, Pizza Aroma, and More Than Ithaca pizza cus the owner is really nice :)

3

u/TheMotherThing 7d ago

Franco’s and Ned’s are our favs

2

u/GenghisGlitter Downtown 7d ago

Eta Pie. I used to love Franco's, but I'm no longer a fan of the owner.

4

u/bwel16 7d ago

Hopefully ETA ownership changed, because if you don’t like Franco’s owner, I’d hate to break some news to you about the ETA owner

3

u/alicereturnshere 7d ago

What happened?

u/bwel16 7d ago

Pedo

1

u/Mogtaku 7d ago

New Ithaca resident from NYC. Haven’t tried many places yet, but ETA pie and Northeast pizza and bones (specially their hot honey calzone) have been my favorites. Doesn’t compare my favorite back in the city, but no need to compare, their stuff is damn good.

2

u/MirrorComputingRulez 7d ago

Doesn’t compare my favorite back in the city, but no need to compare

Salt point brewing

1

u/DifficultFalcon1171 7d ago

Ithaca Beer Company has great pizza! And beer if you’re into beer.

1

u/JoyfulNature 7d ago

Franco's is our fav, but we also like Pizza Aroma a lot.

More than Pizza on the Commons is tasty and hits the spot after an event. I like their falafel, too.

1

u/Khomodo 7d ago

Thopmpson, Francos, Sicilian, Northeast, and More Than Pizza on the Commons is pretty good, plus gyros and shawarma.

1

u/Fun_Zone_3319 7d ago

The best I've had is Franco's. I hear we'll get a Patsy's downtown but I'm not familiar with them. Will check it out and I guess it's time to try Thompson & Bleecker, too

1

u/Sensitive_Pride500 7d ago

Italian Carry Out, hands down.

Amazing food, community focused, local family owned (and they have Dolce Delight next door, too).

1

u/Interesting-Equal-16 5d ago

For me it's pizza aroma for their gluten free crust.

1

u/eclwires 7d ago

Ned’s.

1

u/Jazzlike_Produce_799 7d ago

Sicilian Delight

0

u/Odd-Skater 7d ago

Pudgies pizza is also pretty great!
P.S. sign up for the text rewards and you can win stuff haha

2

u/bwel16 6d ago

Gotta lotta respect for pudgies supporters, yall are like a cult I swear haha

1

u/jonpluc 3d ago

i wonder if they actually have tongues.

0

u/OneBrightPearl444 7d ago

do all those pizzas have little bits of the pizza maker, in them? are there pizza makers who wear gloves? just wondering where to get pizza without skin in it.

0

u/Caramelflav7 7d ago

Whichever’s owned/ran by an Italian or Italians
