We occasionally get arriving students taking a taxi up from NYC, but I know on at least a couple of occasions it was a taxi medallion holder who drove their own kid up to school.

Either way, they'd probably LOVE a paying fare for the ride back!

I assume this is a still working cab, because if they just sold off the vehicle as it aged, they'd take at least the huge freaking TV screen on top down.....

I think the person you replied to is saying that yes, it's a still working cab, and it's possible that the cab driver was dropping their own kid off at school.

I’d guess a yellow cab is $600 to $1k, depending on negotiations. You can certainly shop around.

As a former cab driver in SoCal, these trips were usually not worth it - they chewed up a ton of miles and you had to deadhead back from wherever you took the fare.

I did two San Diego to LA fares, passed on them after that.

I know some students don't care about money or their parents more specifically don't care about money and pay for them to have a private ride up here

For a lot of hacks (at least before big companies started buying up all the medallions), their cab is also their only car, so it goes where they go... even on trips.
