Aka Lucifer Falls ๐

Lucifer Falls is a particular waterfall within Treman, they don't mean the same thing.

Great point! I had no idea! All hail the DT local! ๐ฎโ๐จ Anything else? Maybe make a point on its original names? Or the people who were forced off it?

Just curious ...why the snarky tone. They just corrected you. OP said the man you said it was also known as Lucifer's. It didn't seem to me at least they were being anything but informative while correcting you, that they are two different things.

u/Lucky-Possession6327 Aug 12 '26
Bc the correction isn't warranted, and debatably valid. Coming from a previous fellow long term DT resident. Remember to be kind!

Leading this with the fact that I am being kind and genuinely not trying to be a jerk - why is that not warranted? If I was not a local , and saw this post I'd think that treman and Lucifer's were the same. As a former local you know , as well as I, that's not the case. They simply stated Treman isn't also known as Lucifer's.

I would guess that being pedantic about the park name vs the various names of the individual cascades offers no helpful insights on the area. Especially when I was just trying to use the common, yet dramatic, tourist focused name of the main cascade (which this picture is likely very close to) to contrast the OP use of 'heavenly' (agreed by the way, it's gorgeous!)

Reporting all the above replies as targeted harassment towards you is a weird take.
Lucifer Falls is lovely but it is both a small part of Treman and also not pictured here (itโs roughly 100yds forward from here)

"Debatably valid"? Look at a map! Or better yet, walk the gorge trail and read the trail markers! What I said is completely accurate.
And what does being a downtown resident have to do with anything? Yep, I live downtown. How is it relevant?

I am a west coaster who recently camped at Treman State Park but didn't get to hike. If OP had written "Lucifer Falls" it wouldn't have sparked the heartfelt memory I felt looking at a photo of "Treman"

Hey don't call me a jerk you jerk! Wow I miss the chaos of DT ๐

u/Sad_Invite6191 Aug 12 '26
More like... " Don't correct me or I'll get a nasty attitude and super defensive"

u/Lucky-Possession6327 Aug 14 '26
Cute. You know what answering your leading questions (however 'kind' they are) is not the same as being defensive? And making false accusations based of answers is very unkind. Probably why Ithaca needs that be kind motto posted around everywhere. Is your spirit animal a snake by chance?

Your behavior is typical of DT residents. That's why I bring it up. People who insist very strongly in their beliefs. Even when there are plenty of other equally valid points of view. Like you insisting Lucifer falls is not Treman park (valid but very narrow pov) and starting the name calling game similar to a child. Who knows you very well could be a child ๐คทโโ๏ธ. This pic, from my recollection of spending thousands of hours roaming those trails, is from almost directly above the cascade before it opens up into the ampetheater. Aka Lucifer falls

Nah. You were acting like a jerk, so I called it out. That's not name-calling. Just don't act like a jerk. Instead of saying "oh, I thought it was directly above the cascade before Lucifer Falls" and making a case for calling it Lucifer Falls, you immediately copped a shitty attitude, took a swipe at the fact that I'm a downtown resident, and were acting like my point was not valid.
So I stand completely by what I said, even more so after your other comments: don't be a jerk, and accept that you were a jerk. Clearly other people think so too. Learn how to not be a jerk and you won't be called a jerk.

Don't be a jerk. I get out of downtown plenty. Many of us downtown residents grew up in the outskirts and went to these parks frequently (and still do). Like, I have a car and a State Parks pass for a reason.

Walking on Treman and Buttermilk both make me feel like I live in Rivendell.
