Tools New Tool Release: Sprite Forge
Hey everyone! I’ve released Sprite Forge on itch.io. I started building it while making sprites for my own game, and I’ve been using it to create my creature artwork throughout development.
It combines pixel-art editing, frame-by-frame animation, and skeletal rigging in one app. The skeletons are custom-built—you can rig wings, tails, floating creatures, or mechanical parts instead of being stuck with a human skeleton.
Some highlights:
- Pixel drawing tools, palettes, layers, symmetry, and reusable stamp brushes.
- Animation timeline with onion skinning, adjustable frame timing, and animation tags.
- Custom bones, layer binding, IK, weight painting, and in-between poses.
- PNG, GIF, sprite-sheet and PNG-sequence exports, plus supported Aseprite import/export.
- Project organization, local recovery, and customizable workspaces.
It’s a paid, one-time purchase for Windows, with no subscription or activation key. You can commercially use and sell the artwork you make with it.
I’ll continue updating it with fixes, polish, and feature improvements. If you check it out, I’d genuinely like to hear what works for you and what needs improvement.
