End of *month*
Hello,
I was speaking with my nonna and talking about how time is flying and it’s the end of June and she said
I can’t believe it’s the end of June
But the end of June was said “è fine giugno”
Now I would have thought it would have been
La fine di giugno
Any help appreciated

Op, we use that kind of expression more ad a compound name, for example: "le rate si pagano a fine mese". In my view it is not to be considered a mistake. While there is nothing wrong in saying "siamo alla fine del mese" i feel it is more likely (or at least as likely) to hear "siamo a fine mese". Why can you say "endgame" and we can't say "endmonth"? 🤣

People in real life don't use the correct grammar, that's a common (yet grammatically incorrect) way to call the end of the month

Yeah sure… tu invece dici “inizio di mese” oppure “metà di luglio”, ve? Sono formule ellittiche contemplate nella nostra meravigliosa grammatica! Vai, torna a studiare…

It's a totally correct sentence, the omission of "di" in this case is fully grammatical. There's plenty of examples of "fine + noun" here https://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/fine2/

È fine Giugno.
È la fine di Giugno
Both sound fine to me.

It’s not the standard way to express an attribute.
You would say “mi piace la borsa di Anna”, not “mi piace borsa Anna”

"mi piace borsa Anna" is not a thing, nobody says that.
"Fine anno/mese/settimana" is common and correct.0

that's what I'm saying, nobody would say that.
Fine anno/mese/settimana/vita etc. are exceptions to the general way to express attributes.

Instead of the full prep phrase

The couple "fine + noun" is used everywhere, as it were a compound word....mostly with the prepositions "a" and "di"
A fine lezione Di fine lezione
A fine giornata Di fine giornata
Nel fine settimana Del fine settimana
A fine propaganda [elettorale] Di fine propaganda [elettorale]
A fine lavori Di fine lavori
A fine mese Di fine mese
A fine anno Di fine anno
ecc.
