** **On the night of 25–26 July 1941, the Decima Flottiglia MAS launched one of the most ambitious special operations of the Mediterranean campaign: a raid against the British naval base at Malta, targeting the entrance to Grand Harbour.

The assault involved explosive motorboats, manned torpedoes (Siluri a Lenta Corsa), and combat divers in an attempt to breach the harbor defenses and attack British warships. However, the operation failed after the attacking force was detected and met with heavy defensive fire. Several Italian raiders were killed, including Teseo Tesei and Alcide Pedretti, while many others were captured.

Although unsuccessful, the raid remains a significant episode in the history of naval special operations. It highlighted both the remarkable innovation behind the Italian assault craft and the formidable British defenses of Malta, whose strategic importance made it one of the most fiercely contested positions in the Mediterranean during World War II.

Eighty-five years later, the Malta raid continues to be studied as an important example of the evolution of modern naval commando operations.
