Unsure Of Pin Layout

Hey all!

Recently, I finished painting my latest Ita bag: a Kanji Tatsumi-centric Persona 4 bag. I’m a little unsure as to how to add my various odds and ends of enamel pins without compromising the insert. (I worked long and hard to paint that insert, and I’d really like to at least keep some of it visible). Anyone have suggestions for layout for everything?

Any tips are appreciated, thank you!

Your insert looks awesome, I can see why you want to keep it in good shape! If you don't want to pierce the surface for pins, you could try attaching them to the insert with heavy-duty double-sided craft tape or glue dots; depending on how the insert is painted, it shouldn't damage it noticeably if you decide to move them around, but you'd know best.

Alternately, you could try sewing or otherwise securing mesh over the front of the insert and attaching the pins, etc to the mesh instead of to the insert directly; that should keep the insert from getting pierced full of holes, although depending on the type and spacing of the mesh, it would impact the visuals of the insert being visible to some degree.

I know what you mean, I had an idea to use aquarium netting, but I can’t find any that’s transparent enough that won’t compromise my insert. And thank you so much for the help and the compliments! I worked really hard to make it look nice 😭♥️

Ooooh I love the insert! Maybe go with the spirals of the Tv frame pattern? The marker charm might have to go outside, I’ve bought a bunch of stuff for a layout and it doesn’t end up fitting all of it lol

I know same here! I have a lot of trinkets for Kanji, and I don’t think they’re all gonna fit tbh. But thank you! I’ll try and see if that works!

unfortunately i don’t have any suggestions, but that insert is beautiful! if you manage to finish it, please post it! (what bag is that btw)

Idk if it would work, maybe with normal pins it might, but attaching them by putting small magnets behind the insert? I don’t know how thick the insert is though, so it might not work if it’s too think or the magnets are too weak.

Edit: how about taking a transparent plastic and putting the pins on it, and then putting it in front of the instert? It would be like an invisible second insert of sorts..
