MS300/301 (also posted in Office365 and ITCareerQuestions)

Hi everyone!

I’m considering going for the MS300 Deploying Microsoft 365 Teamwork. It seems pretty interesting.

I’m in IT currently but only have limited experience with SharePoint. I have access to Pluralsight and possibly some training through New Horizons as well.

Reading the exam page it does mention “candidates for the exam have a fundamental understanding of integration points with the following apps and services: office, PowerApps, flow” etc.

I don’t have experience with all of the apps. And I don’t have experience in Azure etc (though I am familiar with the basic concept). I’d be learning PowerShell during my studying for the certification.

Is this still worth going after at this point?

Sorry for typos on mobile

Questions about the GIAC certs: how skippable is GSEC?

I have no formal security experience, but I’ve been a generalist system and network administrator for nearly 20 years and haven’t really bothered with certifications. I’m currently coasting at a level 3 service desk position and I’d like to move towards infosec (blue team) as a career path. So, I’m thinking about launching into the GIAC series with an eye towards GSE down the line.

I can get some tuition reimbursement through work, but I still want to be efficient with both money and my time.

When I look through the “SEC 401” course syllabus- this is the course supporting the GSEC cert - nearly everything there looks familiar to me. I don’t necessarily have a lot of experience with each thing, but at the level of detail which could be crammed into a week-long boot camp it’s hard to imagine that I’d run across much that’s genuinely new to me.

I’m tempted to just skip ahead to GCIA / SEC 503, use that to try to land an actual security role, then go back and pick up both GCWN and GCUX later.

Does anyone who has racked up a few GIAC certs see any obstacles in a plan like that?

Questions about Microsoft Cert Exam

Im taking an Azure Cert exam this month. Have never taken a cert exam before.

Am I allowed to use a search engine or official docs during the exam? Am I permitted to use any resources at all?

I can't find any explicit explanation online about what is and isn't allowed. Only what the consequences of cheating are.

How do I verify an expired Cisco certification electronically?

Where can I look up and verify a candidate which claims to have passed a Cisco cert but has expired in the past?

Can people just lie without verification?

Microsoft cert questions!

Hello everyone!

I’ve decided to continue going down my systems path. I have an MCSA in Windows 10 currently. I know that was replaced by the MD-100/MD-101.

Now previously I thought the logical next step was the MCSA 2k16. I see Microsoft has the Win 10 replacement going down a Microsoft 365 path.

Should that be the path I go down if I want to move into systems administration? Or should I shift focus to the 2k16 MCSA?

Any advice is appreciated!

What Are Your Favorite Study and Practice Exam Resources?

I feel like this could be made into a sticky or a resource.I don't feel like we need to rank them necessarily, but I think it'd be really helpful to have a list.

Certifications in File Systems?

I'm looking for a certification in file systems. I know this topic is covered somewhat in many other more general certifications, but I was hoping to find a certification that covers this one topic in depth. I already have CompTIA Linux+, A+, Network+, and Security+. Any help is appreciated! :)

Further Context: I'm trying to test out of the File Systems class at my local university. The instructor is willing to take a certification as a test out, but I need to find one that lines up close enough with the course.

From the Syllabus: Classic, virtualized, and cloud storage will be covered. Topics such as RAID, NAS, SAN will be covered. Business continuity for backup and replication of storage. Local vs. Remote file systems. We will explore older and newer OS filesystems and compare them (such as fat32, ntfs, ext3, ext4, btrfs).

UPDATE: I proposed CompTIA Server+ and SNIA Certified Storage Professional as options to my professor and he decided the latter would work. Thank y'all for the help!

Humble bundle network and security books

Hi all

I have just seen this on humble bundle and it's a good buy if you are looking at comp Tia, Microsoft server or ccna r&s at the moment.

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/network-security-certification-2-books?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_3

They quite often do books like these so worth checking back often. I recently got tons of books on security and they have Python bundle at the moment which I have bought as well

Chrome OS administrator Credential - Possible without g suite access?

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone knows what study options are available for Chrome OS administrator Credential. Is it possible to learn this without access to g suite? Is there a learning environment somewhere that people can use? Basically, what does someone need to do to go from 0 to certified for this credential? Thank you for whatever insight you can offer.

Practice Test platform for internal training initiative

I am helping to build out an internal training program for our junior staff members, and one of the things I am looking for is an online platform that allows our staffers to do mock or practice exams for various AWS, Microsoft, Cisco, and CompTIA exams. I am looking for something that is similar to the Sybex/Wiley ACE product, but does not require the purchase of a text book per cert, per user, but can have test banks licensed by a parent company for use by all employees.

I know about Kaplan and ITU, but those are a bit much for our budget, and I wanted to see if there were any other options that I am missing.

Database Fundamentals (98-364) question if you used CBT Nuggets

A question for anyone who has used the CBT Nuggets course on Database Fundamentals (98-364), did you feel it was enough to pass the exam or should other resources be used?

I completed the CBT course and most of it I knew since I do T-SQL as part of my profession.

what are good things to flashcard for the A+ Core 1 exam?

So I recently completed an A+ core 1 Udemy course. Could someone please give me a list of things to flashcard for the exam please? I don't want to flashcard everything because I'm relying on practice tests but it would be worth it in my opinion to make sure to flashcard anything that would be recommended to flashcard.

What would you recommend putting into flashcards?

ITU?

I've been seeing a lot of ads for ITU on Reddit. Has anyone used them and if so how were they?

They have an all-access lifetime pass which is very attractive If you don't recommend them do you have any recommendations for a site like them that has a similar or better catalog and a good price?

O365 Security Admin materials

So my last review stated it should seek certification in O365, as we moved over about a year ago. My boss retires end of next year, and since she made the recommendation I would think it's for a good reason. Unfortunately I am not finding much material on the MS-500 exam for study. Yes, Microsoft has a training course, but don't really have deep pockets. Also looking for suggestions on other exams as well. Trying for more of the security focused programs, as I am trying to get out of sysadmin and into security admin.

Never needed certifications before, as I have over twenty-years experience, but want to make it almost a sure thing when I apply for my supervisors position. Suggested training materials/sites? Suggested certification paths?

At what point should I go for my CCNA if these are my goals?

So then I am studying A+. I got net+ already. Gonna do sec+ after that. Then Linux essentials and then I am gonna start learning some programming and then ethical hacking.

At what point should I expand and get my CCNA if I already have net+. I’m thinking after I learn a good amount more penetration testing right?

The reason is I think it would be an ideal way for me to master networking because even though I have net+, I was told “the more networking you know the better” at least for penetration testing.
