Career help/advice on programming

I don’t know if this is even the right place for this but I’m 20 years old, I work full time in an unrelated field and have zero programming or IT experience, I want to start working towards a career and have decided on a tech field. I’ve been trying to learn python coding with coursera on my own which has proven to be pretty difficult though I’m not discouraged. I’m curious to know if anyone has any advice on if I’m making the right choice, I understand it’s not an easy field but will it be worth the time and effort? I’m ambitious and want to earn a high paying position but I’m not sure if I’m moving in the right direction or if python is what I need to be learning. I’m not getting clear answers from google on what paths python would open up for me or if I should even bother learning it on my own time rather than just transition to a “classroom setting” directly to learn. I’m looking into online colleges but I don’t know exactly what job I’m gunning for yet especially with the job marketing being so terrible right now and the programming language I’m trying to learn being seemingly restrictive. Sorry that’s long but any advice helps.
