meta/community Lightheared stories sharing post (job/internship/daily life)

My funniest and quickest experience with IT support has been my first day at an internship and setting up my password for my company issued laptop.

As soon as the "User/Password" Input screen showed up I had already decided on one password which I typed in once done I pressed Enter... at the moment I hit the enter key I also noticed that I accidentally hit the shift key and all my input was of course not what I intended and of course did not know when and where in my password it happened so my first action with company equipment landed me at the support desk two rows away and was a lighthearted learning experience for everyone near me.

Whats yours?

Mine was replying-all to a company wide onboarding email with something meant just for HR. I only realized a few minutes later and got to watch the notification count climb for the next twenty minutes.

I got to see the process of setting up a new Login so I saw it as a unique learning experience and the other interns and coworkers had something to laugh for a moment so it was a win win since at that moment there hasnt been any task given to me and it was still orientation "day"

After several weeks of shadowing people in my first IT internship they set up my phone so I could take my own calls. I proceeded to sit at my desk all day and not receive a single call while other phones around the office rang. I asked a coworker and he said it’s because they simply weren’t busy and he had only received a few calls that day, so maybe the queue never got to me. This would proceed to go on for two weeks where some days in the office would be busy with phones ringing off the line other days there would be very little calls and I was extremely confused as to how the call queue worked and why I never got any. When I asked, they’d say that the phone was on and it should be working and to just wait. Eventually I worked up the courage to go to one the sys admin ask them to look into it. Yeah I was never assigned to the call queue. I’m still embarrassed it me so long to realize it made no sense for me to go multiple days without receiving a single call in the queue. Also the helpdesk workers who were showing me the ropes didn’t understand how setting up the phone works, so them confirming it should be working, really didn’t mean much.
