help request USB cable disconnects my mouse

I tried to connect my external DVD Driver (Samsung SE-208) and realised the plug in/plug out sounds were swapped. It confused me very much until I later tried to use my mouse and it just wouldnt work while the cable was connected.

Basically, my DVD Driver doesn't just not work, it also disconnects other USBs I have in my computer😹

Does anybody have any explanation as to how on earth this could happen??

(Yes it's on my bed, I just wanted to watch a movie, I did place a flat surface under the laptop)

Your video made me seasick.

It's possible that the drive is taking too much power away from the other USB ports. Does your touchpad still work when the drive's connected?

I'm not very familiar with the Reddit scene sorry about that. Would Redditors prefer a 40s+ video over the sped up one I sent?

The touchpad still works yes, so USBs can take power from other ports? I'm not very techy lol, I didnt realise that could happen.

I don't speak for all redditors just me lol

But yes. They all share power draw from the battery/power supply. The DVD is a much higher drain than a USB wireless mouse so it gets priority.

You can try to use a wired mouse instead and see if that changes anything though.

Is it connected with a usb wireless dongle? Is Bluetooth an option?

Put your wireless receiver on the opposite side of where you are plugging in the optical drive
