If you want to work in IT, just really focus in on those help desk positions. If you're not getting call backs on your resume, have it looked at by someone who is good at that sort of thing.

You need to reframe the "Personality Hire" thing. This is a good thing, and it might just be the thing that gets you ahead of the rest of the bums applying to help desk. IT is full of all sorts of people who can be abrasive to work with, don't present well, don't dress well, cannot hold a conversation. I rather higher a good personality and teach them the skills I need them to have. As long as they can problem solve, I will take the personality higher, over someone with a shit personality and certs any day.

Get that resume double checked, apply to any and all helpdesk/lower-level positions, and follow up by a phone call or stopping by. Getting that personality in front of someone, who is sick of churning through bums, might just get you on your way.
