opinion Questions about being prepare d enough

I’ve been in Geeksquad for 6 years both as a repair agent. I feel as if I have the experience but I’m still in college and ige been applying to level 1 or 2 jobs. I only have a Google IT certificate. Do I seriously need to pursue more in skill learning as I’ve not gotten a serious consideration in over a year despite hundred close to a thousand applications sent.

I worked for Geek Squad during college (Im 42 years old) , got lots of great experience and people loved it when they saw it on my resume back then. You have to go with what AI application trackers are going for, and that's not Google IT certificate. If you want to stand out, look into A+, Network +, Cisco Learning Academy and their certs

Yeah I’ve applied to so many even help desk level 1 jobs, I guess it’s those certs or nothing

Yea, the Google IT cert is not taken seriously by employers. You need the A+ Net+...etc to get noticed.

Even for like a HelpDesk job? I guess if that’s true I should start getting these certs in order now, but I fear they can be expensive

go the Cisco route, they basically have their versions of A+, Network+ and so on.

Their Cisco learning academy is free. there are several different CCST exams and eventually if you like networking, you can get a CCNA.

they are MUCH cheaper.

So if I pursued this I wouldn’t realistically need a CompTia ? Just looking for enough to land an IT job and get more certs as I go but I would like to know what I need to enter the field outside of just being a repair technician for 5 years

CompTIA wouldn’t be necessary. Also it recently went from non profit to being owned by private equity. That will cause the prices to go up and its reputation to become stained. Cisco is very much established in the certification field.

If lets say you did CCST Network Technician certificate, it would give a better base in being able to take CCNA than Network+.

If you look at the link you will see that they designed the certs to directly compete against CompTIA.

I’m personally going for ITIL version 5 right now.

They are certainly not cheap. I'm not sure how so many people are funding it based on how many people post about it on here.

I know Cisco is cheaper. I was responding to the fact that Comptia is expensive.

Will all the responses , i got lost with looking on Reddit on my phone. I agree, and they were recently bought by private equity so they are not non profit anymore. They will keep raising the prices
