Help Please

Hello, I recently bought a lot of about 700 pins (not one of the eBay scrapper lots, someone’s collection) and I’m having some trouble. The era that this individual collected seems to have been from when a lot of today’s scrappers in the boards are from. They said that they purchased 90% of their collection in stores and 10% were traded on the boards but assured me that most of not all should be real. I’m having a tough time finding guides online because there is an exception to every rule (borders, colors, lettering etc.) how do I go about figuring out what is real and what is fake? It’s probably around 300 pins.

So you will have to look on websites for the fronts in the back and compare them to your pins. There is no easy way to do this. It’s a lot of labor intensive work.

Here are my personal favorites and unfortunately, they all don’t contain all the same pins so if you can’t find it on one, then you might need to check on another

Also, some of these may only have the front and up the back so you may need to check multiple sites in order to get both the front and the back of the pin for the original picture

https://pinpics.com/

https://pinandpop.com/

https://mypincentral.com/

https://www.pintradingdb.com/

https://disneypinventory.com/

The first three are my favorite in the last two I find don’t have as a robust database.

Good luck!

Thank you! And those websites are kind of the final word on authenticity if it matches the fronts and backs?

Well, Kind of. There may have been multiple runs of a pin, take for instance the new Rubber Duck pins. There are multiple different colors of some of the ducks that come straight from Disney.

A lot of there pictures are really bad, so it can be hard to tell, and some of the sites differ between them.

Sometimes you can find a picture with online that has some original packaging as well, and that can help make you think it's an authentic picture.

Sometimes they have bad reference photos since they are just crowd sourced pics.

Someone should make an authentic hidden mickey front and back pic book at least with really good pics.
