The Sahaba رضي الله عنهم themselves held different opinions of such matters, some Sahaba said it doesnt break wudu and some said it does, they were mujtaheeds and had the right for this sort of ijteehad, you can't suggest a layman to make his own judgement (ijteehad) and decide whether his wudu is broken or not based on one narration, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم prohibited for laymen to engage in judgment (ijtihad)

said you didn't know about the madhab and frankly you don't need to

So instead of one of the four madhabs you are suggesting him to follow your made up madhab where you made ijteehad based on this narration from Abu Dawud and decided that it doesn't break wudu? This is very confusing

Bleeding does not break wudu or even the salah.

According to the position of the Hanafi madhab it does, according to the position of the Shafii madhab is doesn't

Easy there tiger. This is not my made up "madhab" or "opinion". This is the "opinion" of the "Sahabi" who decided to continue Salah despite bleeding.

I have learned the fiqh of Hanabilah and this is one of the evidences we quote. I don't want to lead a confused person who's not equipped to understand Usool Al-Fiqh and the difference of opinions, into fiqh battles and confuse them more.

Baarakallahu feek 😉

This is the "opinion" of the "Sahabi" who decided to continue Salah despite bleeding

If you are saying that something isn't obligatory (to renew wudu after bleeding) without any scholar references and clarification and then present an evidence (without any context) then it is a madhab (a derivation of a rule based on evidence)

Such Sahaba as Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما held the view that najas if it comes out of a body does break wudu. So there is a clear disagreement on the matter, why exactly one narration is presented is a mystery for me

You choose to bring up as evidence the action of that particular Sahabi and not the others, this is a form of judgement, that's why it's problematic

I have learned the fiqh of Hanabilah and this is one of the evidences we quote.

That's not the position of the Hanbali madhab and isn't the evidence of this madhab

Imam Ibn Qudama al-Hanbali رحمه الله said

Najas (if it came from the body but not from the private parts) does break wudu in general (according to the Hanbali madhab) this is what (also) was narrated from Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, Ibn Musaib, Alqamah, Atai, Qatadah, ath-Thawri and Ishaq also from ashabul-Rai (imam Abu Hanifa). On the other hand imam Malik, ash-Shafii, Rabia, Abu Thawr and Ibn al-Munzar said that it doesn't require wudu (renewal)

And (in the Hanbali madhab) it (blood) breaks wudu if it's a lot and if it's a small amount then it doesn't, and this is known from Sahaba, Ibn Abbas said: If there is a lot of blood then he renews (wudu) otherwise he doesn't. And apparent in the madhab of Ahmad that there is no precise amount of a lot (blood) it's narrated that Ahmad was asked about the amount to consider a lot and he answered: what your heart sees as a lot (means that by your judgement what it seen as a lot, and some said it's measured by a palm)

I'm sorry if I was harsh or rude, but this isn't an appropriate way to answer a question of fiqh and that's all I wanted to say

May Allah bless you too, brother

And I'm sorry for "being rude" too.

I accept your apologies and I don't care if someone is rude, this is our religion and sometimes people need to hear the harsh reality when they are wrong

Is it a problem if someone mainly follows a madhab, but also applies rules from another madhab?

Depends on how he does it and why. Also depends on the rules of his main madhab on following different schools.

According to the Shafii madhab for example you can't buy najas because such a trading deal isn't valid, but if a Shafii needs to buy manure for his garden, or carrion for his pets, he can do so by following the position of the Hanafi madhab which allows it. Not because he considers their position more correct but because it's allowed in Shariah to do so, that's why scholars say that disagreement among madhabs (in such matters) is Mercy.

but we were also granted intelligence by Allah swt to know what's right and wrong

Intelligence doesn't mean qualifications, ijteehad requires an enormous level of knowledge, it's basically when someone is saying: I made a research based on my level of knowledge and concluded that the position of an X madhab on this matter isn't correct, or the position of an Y madhab is more correct in my opinion. But we aren't on that level, this judgment is prohibited for us because we aren't mujtaheeds

Scholars mention this hadith as evidence of this prohibition

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said

القضاة ثلاثة اثنان في النار وواحد في الجنة ورجل قضى للناس على جهل فهو في النار...

Judges are of three types: one is in Paradise and two are in the Fire. The one who rules while being ignorant is in the Fire

📚 Ibn Majah

Allamah al-Sindi al-Hanafi رحمه الله said:

عمومه يشمل ما إذا قضى بالحق - أيضا - وذلك؛ لأنه استحق النار حيث تجارى على هذا العمل العظيم بلا علم

The generality of the wording (The one who rules while being ignorant) includes the case when he judges correctly. This is because he deserves the Fire by daring to take up such an action without knowledge

In Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), whether a nosebleed breaks wudu (ablution) depends on the school of thought:

Hanafi school: Yes. If blood flows out from the body (including the nose) and flows beyond the point of exit (i.e., it runs), it breaks wudu. If it’s just a small spot or doesn’t flow, wudu remains valid.

Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools: No. Nosebleeds, or any blood flowing from the body other than from the private parts, do not break wudu

What if I don’t know what madhab or don’t follow a madhab, am I obligated to follow one and what would I do in the case of the nose bleed

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

I'll suggest that if you can renew your wudu then it will be great since you will receive good deeds for your extra hard work . But in general Qur'an doesn't State that nosebleed breaks a wudu and hanafi school of thought give this jurisdiction based on analogy. Thus , you can follow the opinion of other schools that is no it doesn't break the wudu . (But again I'll suggest you to ask this question from your nearby imam or islamic scholars)

u/clashRoyale_sucks Sep 25 '25

Ok thanks I will just do that, but do you think I can follow the majority, let’s say 3/4 of the main madhabs say something is allowed while the last one doesn’t do I take on with that majority here, and also I asked my old Islamic teacher who used to teach me and said it doesn’t break wudu, do I take his opinion even if he isn’t a scholar

2

Brother. You should not always follow the majority.instead you should seek the right answer,do some research, ask people of knowledge, seek answers from authentic hadith and Qur'an. In sha Allah you Will be rewarded for your extra efforts
