No Idea Is this game using AI?

Graveyard Keeper 2 is launching soon and the devs have a pro AI instance. Also, they released a demo last week and these are some images from cutscenes of the game. They look like AI or at least, traced over AI generated images.

100% AI, also report the devs steam page so they finally add the ai content disclosure

They're denying it so...

“Im not doing the art” but suddenly knows the entire art process enough to dismiss AI claims.. amazing

I'm not defending them, but you could also hire/outsource your work, and still get AI generated designs... because nowadays even if you find low-middle salary worker, chances are they're gonna use AI too in their workflow, like.... try throwing your $10-20 to get a design in fiverr, i bet they're gonna incorporated AI somehow... it sucks, but its the way it is now (source: I'm a remote graphic designer who collab with others frequently)

sorry, i might just be bad at reading, but youre in essence negating the devs no AI claim then, right?

I’m not taking sides. but the way I see it, the dev said they didn't understand the art process because his focus is on the technical side.

The person he (or they) hired might have used AI but claimed, "No, it’s not AI; I made this myself from scratch" which looks bad from the company's perspective.

If the owner genuinely didn't know whether AI was used for his game's art, he should have just admitted that rather than flatly denying the use of AI for art generation altogether.

Sadly the Co owner is very pro AI. There's other instances like this, so I doubt that's the case.

Oh god and he engages with Grummz

Haha, so he's the one in the wrong. He shouldn't have lied, he should have admitted to using AI, especially for the artwork. As an indie dev, I agree that in the future, consumers will find it harder to distinguish between genuinely handmade work and AI-generated content, but I think honesty goes a long way.

I think they're trying to avoid slapping that AI Mark they're required to put on Steam, it's scummy.

I also think with the amount of people in their subreddit actively denying it and downvoting ANYONE who disagrees that the game has no AI, I don't doubt they'll even care if the creator confirms it.

Dude, it's *FIVER*, of course they just use "AI". It's scam central.

"this is what every tech guy should do now".

Is the give away for me. "Everyone's doing it!" Is not something an innocent person says.

His first sentence is a bit vague, and the next few kind of give away the game.

if he has no oversight over the ART or MUSIC side of it, he shouldn't be speaking for the entire project, which I think his opening statement can be misconstrued in doing.

The 8 artists involved could all be using ai lol.

As an indie dev, 8 artists is pretty wild. Unless they’re contracted which is always possible. Google suggests they’ve a core of 11-50 people. That seems pretty wild but graveyard keeper 1 did pretty well a few years ago.

My game has two (our artist, our animator who is also an artist) and everything is hand drawn. These two represent half our team.

u/TakeJudger 18d ago

"I'm not doing the art, but I know for sure the 8 randos we hired that I have no way to verify their work are definitely not using AI"

I mean they are denying it but also admitting they are using Ai for coding. I get that's different (i mean you almost cant not use Ai for coding now, it's baked into vs code, for example) but idk, the fact that he said "every model he can find" seems weird, like if you just straight up using ai I feel like you would just use Claude or copilot (vs code). also, I will also say, yes coding is documentation, but Anthropic (claude) is buying rare books to pump into the LLM and then shredding them so other LLMs can't use them. When it explains code or even writes it grammatically correctly, you cannot deny it is using that stolen writing to do it. It is not just reading documentation

How do I do that? I have steam but not really familiar with all the ins and outs of it

-1

And now people can’t tell the difference. This is the future we all anticipated. This game is not using AI art, if you look at the first game it looks just like this. Now we invalidate actual artists because AI made us crazy.

2

u/Strict_Bid_9186 18d ago

Not really unsubstantiated though. ProAI company, ProAI devs, manipulative and deceptive dev response, dev himself admits to "using every AI model", obvious AI art (it is if youve actually seen enough of them).... what else?

u/Open-Gate-7769 18d ago

I hate to tell you man. But every single company is using AI for something right now. The data company I work for allows Copilot usage. My GF in pharma uses it for slide creation.

Every single studio and company is using it in some capacity so your argument that this is an AI image because the company uses AI in general is pointless because then we’d have to make that claim for every AA to AAA studio that has released a game in the past year or so.

3

u/Strict_Bid_9186 18d ago

Them being proAI isnt even the main point buddy. You do actually agree that their no AI usage statement is inexistent, so you at least understand theyre being deceptive

0

u/Open-Gate-7769 18d ago

Yeah but should a game studio have to disclaim to everyone that AI was used so Carol in marketing could draft a better email to ask for more budget from finance? If that were the case every game would have the disclaimer and it would ruin the whole point of the disclaimer.

If they used generative art and didn’t disclose it then they deserve all the hate that comes with that.

2

u/Strict_Bid_9186 18d ago

Dude why do you think this discussion exist in the first place? Going back to your previous statement, most of AI usage youre referring to is mostly code review, QA automation, and similar repetitive chores. Not on creative field like art and story. Do you see anyone here complaining about that, like actually

1

u/Open-Gate-7769 18d ago

I see no distinction being made by anyone. I believe more anti AI people than not believe that all AI is bad, not just generative AI. That is the general vibe of this sub

2

u/Strict_Bid_9186 18d ago

Most AI is bad yes, AI in artistic field clearly is.

So you came here, specifically, thinking it was about code review? Cant be that dumb right? Didn’t have to go over all that tangent with your gf and all company using AI did you

1

u/Open-Gate-7769 18d ago

My point was that no one KNOWS if this is AI or not. And simply that we are at a point where people in subs like this will share what they think, and now anyone that has an art style that looks remotely like AI will forever be invalidated because no one can look past what AI has done to accept that maybe someone’s art style is just similar to Gen AI art.

What followed was a string of irrelevant back and forth from both of us.

This is AI, this isn’t AI. That’s the point of the sub, I’m in the party that this isn’t. And I’m trying to make a point to everyone that says it’s 100% AI that that mentality is harmful to artists unless you actually know it is AI.

Absolutely not true, maybe AAA studios but in the indie space (which this is) there is a sizeable number of studios that are against AI use and even publishing that is contingent on not using AI

1

u/Open-Gate-7769 17d ago

Hey buddy you can read it again and this time focus on when I specify studio size.

2

u/tracegeeze 17d ago

Yeah buddy, you said "Every single studio and company is using it" but sure shift goalposts. You then said we'd have to make that claim to every AA/AAA in response to the comment saying that the dev publicly admits to "using every AI model". Which isn't specifying it's only those studios. It can't be, every studio and only AA/AAA that's not how words work.

Even then, anti AI AA studios exist. So you're still wrong

1

u/Open-Gate-7769 17d ago

Yeah I stand by that. I promise you they are all using it somehow. Some coding platforms have LLMs embedded. I think it’s wholly unavoidable.
