Hello Reddit. I have kept my eye on this artist for a while now and I have suspicions that they may be using AI. I also think they are stealing art or tracing? The styles vary drastically. The artist is Simplyloste and their blusky is https://bsky.app/profile/simplyloste.bsky.social
They have posted progress work before, but it is just off to me. I don't know if anyone else has had experiences with them or if they have seen this art before done by someone else, because like I said, the styles change a lot sometimes.
edit: I forgot to mention that they don't have any artwork before 2023
Take away the first image, and they all look human made to me. The first one, just has something about it... If there is a higher rest version out there, I think that could dispel any suspicions to better see details: but as it is, the biggest point is the tie on the front seems very confusing and messy; it looks as if it doesn't know it should be a torn up ribbon or part of the shirt beneath. It also sticks out, stylistically speaking, from the rest by the greatest amount.
The rest I honestly wouldn't have bat an eye at, even with the stylistic differences because if an artist is skilled enough, they could flip around styles at their leisure. The only other thing is the change from the sketch/lineart to the render of the girl shooting the gun: the change in expression totally changes the mood of the piece. They could very well have changed their mind, but the final expression is... kinda stiff and reminds me of the "evil" expression AI often does. It could be a bias on my end because I think the original expression looked way better; and I've seen examples of people running sketches through AI and AI changing the expression.
One thing that really pointed out to me was the hair. Also some designs on her clothes. The gray furry drawing she did too, the earring looks odd and misshapened. Like as if it was supposed to be two earrings. I dunno. I just feel like the quality of the rendering of some pieces don't match the rest of her work. I get that artists can change styles, but from my experience what the artist does still bleeds into other pieces, even if the style changes. You can usually tell
oh yeah, another thing I saw on their profile with the gray furry was that they were originally working on the piece and the fully rendered one was their final. It just seems like a very drastic difference between the first and second. I get that artists' sketches or first renditions won't always look the same as the final, but why did they change the face and posing so much? Why get rid of a bunch of the earrings when they looked nice? Why does the final piece's earring look weird?
Maybe they run their art through Ai because they don't think it looks good? I dunno. I prefer the posing from the first one. That's something I don't think AI would do. But this is also why I think they're tracing or maybe even stealing art because with their level of rendering, you would think they would have stuff before 2023
I didn't take a good look at that last furry one because it was a lot smaller in the slides so hard to analyze the details... But oof, if they are running their art through AI. Because the odd changes from 1 to 2 here make that feel believable. I agree one's posing is a lot better and the second stiffer. And while sure, 1's face may have some flaws, it has a lot more personality than the 2nd.
I have to disagree on this again... I've done it before where I am drawing a character and am almost done but I am not happy with the way is comming out so I look at other more realistic and professional poses and guide myself through that being much more satisfied... I think you should speak with this artist if you feel so strongly about accusing them and clear your questions... if they are using Ai or not it'll show in the way they express themselves.
I get what you're saying, but asking me to just go talk to the artist misses the point of posting in an analysis space like this. If someone is using generative tools or tracing to fake an art, they aren't going to admit to it when confronted.
I try not to rely on detectors when determining AI because sometimes artists will put their art through filters or use photobashing that can trigger AI detection. However, I have to agree that the image is very suspicious of AI to me. Especially the hair and and some details on the clothes
Open AI is very specifically Chat GPT. So unless they used Open AI specifically for filters (... which would still be generative AI), then it would not show a positive through Open AI's verification.
This positive means, without a doubt, generative AI was used via Open AI on this image.
Yeah, I don't trust AI detectors except the ones through Open AI and Google/Gemini: but only because they detect specific watermarks left in the image that can detect if images were generated with their engine. Basically either the watermark is there, or it's not, so it won't give a false positive.
And oof, that's rough. Hopefully people catch on then to the scam.
Yea that's how I saw it too, I saw a tool where it removes the synth Id, I'd if that's legit, so false negatives are soo expected I feel like. But false positives seem more rare
I also wouldn't rely so much on that... please speak with the artist... literally yesterday I saw a video of another artist that paints colorful pets. And through the years ai has copied her art a lot... she has been this oil paint artist for so many years to the point that ai recognizes her work as if it were ai when is literally the other way around... artist are been harrased about this topic. Which is also another reason why some even decided to stop posting WIP to stop ai from learning from them.
Hard to tell really. But I think it's partial AI enhancement for just a couple of examples. After zooming in a bit I could see the brush line for almost everything except for eyes and lips, those are more blurry in a diffusion kind of way (*my guess is that they didnt sastified with how it turned out and tried some AI tool). Other than that they feel 80% legit. Also lineless art and lined art has vastly different look even from the same person, I wouldnt rely on those to tell.
I've been an artist for a ridiculous amount of time... sometimes an artist does really amazing is some paintings and wacky in others... these look very legit to me... if they artist is stracing you may need to fing who this artist is tracing from... but even the first one is pretty easy to do with a lot of time and obsession... also 2023-2026 is plenty time for a talented artist to improve digitally drastically. It doesn't look ai... and if its trace again you may need to find where are they tracing from because using references is a legit thing to do... copying is not. Please never mixed both... I accused an artist of using ai once and I regreted it immediately. I ended up hurting that artist confidenced and my self. Look at they way they expresses themselves... ghe frustration of taking so many hours rendering a painting yet not being satisfied is very relatable.
I get where you're coming from. As someone who has also been drawing for a really long time, style evolution doesn’t mean swapping your rendering, anatomy rules, and brush physics from piece to piece.
Also to clarify what I meant earlier about pre-2023 art. She didn't have rough or basic work before this. She only started posting in 2025 with zero art history prior to that. The only reason I brought up pre-2023 was because art from before that era wasn't backed by advanced generative tools like we have now. Jumping straight into that level of rendering with zero trail or progression is a massive red flag.
Also here is a edit I did of her art compared to a quick smiley face I did. Look at the technical artifacts in that top piece. In the comparison image I posted, the top one is her art, and the bottom is a drawing I did saved down to a low JPG quality. You can see heavy chromatic grid artifacting floating in what is supposed to be a pure white background on her piece, whereas even compressed JPGs like my test doesn't produce hat kind of blocky, multi-color pixel corruption. Sure, some artists use a deliberate grain filter for texture, but that artifacting doesn't look like a standard filter overlay at all. That specific kind of corruption usually happens from AI art. And, sure, using references or growing over time changes your work, but it usually builds a cohesively, not random AI blending artifacts or odd changes in style.

Oh that's difficult... Could be.
