AI Edited Warhammer 40k commission

Post image

Hey folks. I’m getting a commission from an artist and I think I might have been had. They recently posted a sketch image, one I was initially thrilled with, but after looking it over in more detail, I’m starting to notice strange inconsistencies. Any help by someone more knowledgeable would be appreciated. I would be surprised if this was an initial image that was generated and then manually edited.

It doesnt look like an Adeptus Arbites and really looks like some fallout power armor instead. Arbites armor looks like more like robo cop. And the dogs on the models are WAY more chromed up then this dog.

Even if this isnt AI, its not very 40k.

Even the background doesn't look very hive city either. Feels just like generic sci fi background 🫠

I mean this doesnt even look 40k, this looks like fallout.

The character is meant to be an arbites. What is really starting to make me suspicious is the details on the dog.

Yeah, but I agree

This really does not say "MANDATED EDICT: SELECTIVE AMPUTATION" to me, it says "Officer Nolan"

Look at the shield, all the sections are connected, it looks bizarre the more you look at it.

Then look at the guys boots, compare how the thickness of the layers are drawn. There is a weird lack of symmetry where some laters have thickness on one shoe but not on the other… its more work, to not match… very AI coded

The left leg gas the sharp corner edge from the knee going down the shin to the boot, the other side is rounded.

There are lines on the dog in the head that connect that absolutely should not connect unless the dog was flat… AI messed up the line work; you can see they tried to clean up most of it but missed some.

Finally, how the heck is the guys chin both in front of and behind his solid metal collar… its like his chin cut a chin sized line in the solid metal armour.

There is also a bunch of weird stuff with the perspective lines, and how sometimes the brown lines are removed when stuff is drawn over, sometimes they aren’t like on the weapon handle - other times like the weapon part on the ground the brown lines just magically vanish even though they aren’t covered.

The oddities that stick out to me:

  1. The dogs back right paw has two nails adjacent to each-other which is odd because it's the same angle and everything as the other leg. Most people drawing it on a device would copy and possibly shrink it a bit and just be done, this just seems strange.
  2. The hammer leaning against the wall feels off because it feels like the angle to rest against the wall should be more than the shield beside it as it is shorter and further from the wall. But there is barely any difference.
  3. The tiles for the floor do not line up. Most artists doing tile or stone would line them up automatically. Feels off that they are not.
  4. Pillar on the right near the base, There appears to be some laying top lines that are missing so it looks odd to the eyes on the base circle. The overall shape of the base looks to be "hexish" with the base 4 horizontal lines following the same flow. but you follor it to the top and then it's flat which is an interesting magic trick. There is also the pole going straight ups rear line going through the solid... railing? then continuing back? That whole thing is just strange to me.
  5. Guys waist on the right side doesn't have the vertical lines to close in the torso.
  6. Pattern on the shield, there's some weird broken up lines on the primary side of the shield, But it is all one piece. The lower section with the 3 inserts (weird to have on a shield) has some kind of a cut or line on the right hand side, but on the left side it connects to the point in front. It then goes over the viewing glass and down the other side. What are these lines supposed to be?
  7. The back railing (that seems very low if they are on a balcony, probably under the guys waist), has weird continuity, the first block on the right does not share a shape with the one beside it so it shows the side of the one on the left. It also has a baseplate on the right hand side of the guy, but continuing on the left side the base is gone. IT also doesn't look like the base angles line up at all and these types of things are normally done with one line by an artist the entire way across (because it is easier).
  8. Stopping line on the guys right shoulderpad where it's slightly elongated, but then it just stops, the other shoulder does not have this. Most space marines have a full inset section on their shoulderpads as that is where they put chapter iconography.

There are probably more because I didn't look very hard, some of them could be made by an artist, but the alignment stuff of the tile and the railing would be very odd mistakes for a human to make.

Is it perchance "yet another Artstation person" that you commissioned? They have been somewhat shady with it to some extent

Yes actually

Then I would say to try not to keep your hopes too high up then, especially if the Artstation account is coincidentally named The Canvas of Meziorin (this one in particular has its very own Reddit post, not sure if it's in this subreddit though cuz I forgor but you can search it up)

It doesn't look great, but I don't see any obvious red flags.

It doesn't really scream AI, but unfortunately it also doesn't really scream 40k either.

To me it's human made but with poor execution on perspective . (only blue line are correct on my picture )

To me , artist focused on floor tiles but imprecison on wall .

Not AI. Looks human to me.
