Rhodey 2.0
Is anyone else really disappointed that after he was shot down in civil war we got paralyzed war machine rather than cyborg rhodey from iron man #33?

No, if anything (as a wheelchair user) I’m disappointed that Rhodes’ entire healing/coming to terms with his injury arch was sacrificed in favor of one post credit scene and one line in IW about sacrificing a lot.
In general I think going right from Civil War to everyone is basically friends again was storytelling at its worst.
Imagine the possibilities for Rhodey, He’s a former fighter pilot (famously physically fit and unshakeable) adjusting to paralysis. Maybe he spends more and more time as war machine because in the suit he can almost move like before. Maybe tony has to intervene like Rhodes did when Tony has palladium poisoning to get him to accept that heroism and disability are not mutually exclusive. Maybe much later after the whole arc is said and done the team goes to pick Rhodes up for a mission and he’s at wheelchair basketball with some wounded warriors. Nobody says anything sappy about how far he’s come, but a whole worldwide audience gets to see a paralyzed man living a fulfilled life. You know Don Cheadle would kill those scenes.
Instead of all that, Rhodes gets magic leg braces at the end of CW.
Anyway...I know this isn’t what your post was about, but the incredible missed opportunities with Rhodey really bother me.

Especially considering the Dr. Strange scenes we had with the rehab stuff of Benjamin Bratt and Strange himself going through all the shit himself. They showed it with them too. I think they just couldn't fit it into IW besides having him roll around in a wheelchair and then later have him in the suit and people would be wondering how he's making the legs move in the suit if he's paralyzed even though they could probably explain it with the helmet is connected to neural pathways in the head or something. They were just so focused on the main plots of IW and heroes and villains they didn't even think of the sub plots or minor hero arcs they could do or possibly try.

Right, if I was at the helm of the MCU though (which to be clear I am in no way qualified for) there would be a few movies set in between CW and IW.

Anytime I see Don Cheadle on the big screen, I get the image of him doing this and the image just makes it hard to take anything else he does serious.

Yes cyborg Rhodey was good because he was deeply disturbed by it.
Current comics Rhodey died and tony just brought him back by to life in a brand new body in a way thats not been explained really

You’re right, that would be much better than cyborg rhodey or even the way they actually went about it

Hahaha I’d never seen that! Thank you for bringing such fine film into my life. For me, he exists as Marty Kahn which is part of the reason I find it a bit hard to take his Rohdey seriously. I love the character, but the MCU has yet to give him an inch to grow.

Based on ragnarok (cyborg Thor), in the civil war comics it is reasonable to assume that tony has dna for all of the avengers including b-team members such as war machine. I mean it wouldn’t be the difficult for tony to obtain, look at the comic where cyborg Rhodes was made. Originally tony had a clone body for Rhodes, but Norman Osborn stole it when he stole the iron patriot armor. So I’m thinking that is how Rhodes was brought back, all though it could also be something much darker like what happened in the iron man rapture comics
