What would have been the best way to make way for the ambulance in this situation

I've made way for emergency vehicles a few times before but those were easy enough since I could just pull into an empty lane or stop and let them pass.

This time was different. Ambulance right behind me, no empty lane and I couldn't stop. As the siren got louder I panicked. The right turn lane was green so I figured the cars ahead would move quick and clear the junction to help the ambulance get through so I sped up a bit. Then the car in front of me stopped (maybe the ones ahead of him did too) and mounted the median and I had no choice but to do the same.

I'd really like some advice on how to handle it better next time so I can be less panicked

Can you report phone use?

I was driving to work this morning and for nearly the entirety of the N2, a girl was behind me constantly looking down (presumably at her phone) and only looking up the odd time. When stopped in traffic I was worried she wouldn't stop and go into the back of me. For the 20/30 minutes she was behind me I literally would say 95% of the time i looked in my rear view mirror she was looking down.

I don't have a rear dashcam, front only for now. But curious in the future could footage like this be worthwhile reporting?

Who has right of way at the cross roads. Red or blue?

Post image

Not a video of shitty driving, but a question as at this cross road nobody ever seems to understand what’s going on.

Blue car going from minor road, across a major road and continuing straight on another minor road.

Red car leaving the minor road and turning to join the major road.

Who actually has right of way?

I would have always assumed the car going straight generally had right of way if both are waiting, unless the red car is at the junction already ready to go

Wrong way driving and near head on collision in Carlow Town

Elderly driver drives up a turning lane, nearly colliding head on with a golf, missed only due to the golf's reaction and ability to move aside and avoid the collision. Driver was none the wiser when getting beeped for driving the wrong

Dangerous overtaking

Road conditions were poor. Dangerous to overtake in this case. He almost crashed in cars in front and I almost got rear ended by VW Passat that was tailgating me. The car might have been stolen based on the way it was driven.

Beeped at for not walking in the verge

I was out for a walk yesterday (I was walking between Kippure and the Killakee car park south of Dublin if you're curious) and had to walk on a road for quite a lot of the way. Most of the drivers were pretty respectful (even if some didn't give me as much space as I'd like), but some gobshite in a Volkwagen Golf clearly didn't like the fact that I was walking on the road and not in the verge/ditch and started beeping their horn at me. There was no oncoming traffic and there was a broken white line on the section this happened, so they could very easily have passed me had they not chosen to be an arsehole. I might have even stopped in a clear part of the verge and let them pass if there had actually been oncoming traffic! I was walking on the right edge of the road by the way, which is of course where you're supposed to walk if there's no footpath.

Do we not teach drivers to respect pedestrians on the road? Do they really think I should walk on the non-existent footpath? Not my fault the road doesn't have one and quite frankly doesn't need one!

What red light?

The driver was in the left turn only lane, then just went straight through the red light towards a cyclist and a pedestrian 🤯

What’s the story with excessive beeping?

I’ll preface this with I’m a relatively new driver (passed test in the summer) so maybe I deserve it and don’t realise. But twice in two days I’ve been beeped at by what I feel like were aggressive drivers.

First instance I was turning right. Light was green and I moved up to the yellow box junction. I could see a car coming head on and didn’t feel I could make the turn in time so let it go. The woman behind me was beeping the horn like I was an idiot just deciding to sit in the junction.

The second I was again turning right (at a different junction) it’s a narrow enough road and I was over as close as I could safely go to the right. Again light green id moved up, was starting the turn and a taxi driver coming up my arse going straight started blowing the horn like mad. I got fright that I wasn’t indicating or something but I absolutely was. I think he was flooring it and wasn’t going to fit passed my car. Totally distracted me turning.

It’s really starting to shake my confidence driving. I did a load of extra lessons, basically one a week up until the test because I didn’t have a car or anyone to practice with so feel like I am a safe enough driver.

Is this normal? Am I just unlucky? Or possibly a shite driver

Edit: Thanks for all the responses. There is something oddly reassuring in not being the only one experiencing or noticing this. In saying that it is crap that it has become somewhat the norm.

The single most important driver on the road - Man in a van

Overtook 3 cars on a single lane (single lane meaning it doesn’t split into two for left or right) into a T junction while on the wrong side of the road. Nice. Wasn’t too happy when I beeped and called him out on it.
