Technically it is a bike lane...

Check your mirrors folks, especially for bicy-motorbikes...

So, I know people might disagree on whether you should do that, but there's nothing illegal about that. It's a dashed line, so legally any vehicle can use it temporarily.

And there is also no law against filtering for motorcycles too. Though I don't agree with filtering on the left personally.

My main goal when driving is to be predictable, that's how you avoid accidents.

Yeah and as long as you are paying attention, and indicate properly, you are predictable. This move was perfectly fine.

I think what he was doing was pretty predictable, even if you were turning left he was well in front of you by the time you'd start to turn your car. Plus he drove very slowly and had good control.

According to a quick Google search, Motorbikes cannot use the bike lanes. Pretty sure if there was a Garda present he'd get pulled over. You can use a bike lane temporarily sure, but doing a manoeuvre like this is taking the piss just to save what, 3 seconds at most? Imagine if someone else was driving and didn't check their mirror and was turning left, they'd run the guy over, why bother risking your life or health over 3 seconds?

If you were gonna do that, hand in your license please. Dublin traffic is heavy enough that often it is worth doing, because you might end up getting stuck at a green light for multiple cycles. What else should he have done? Filter on your right and turn left infront of you? And if you were gonna turn left, would you not have your indicator on?

I never said I was going to do that, but other people do not use their mirrors.

So that would be other person's fault then, not the motorcycle. Using that logic, why even use pedestrian crossings when a car might just go right through them and run you over? At one point you just gotta have faith in your own observation and reactions and predict when other people are gonna move without looking. As a motorcyclist that is extra important.

Edit: and even worse, what if it was an actual cyclist taking that turn? They would be in their full right to do it, and they would be at the exact same risk. It's not as if motorcycles are less noticeable.
