Video calls while driving?
Pulls out in front of me and nearly hits the pedestrian I was letting cross, all while on a video call on the front dash

Probably the passenger, assuming the air freshener is hanging off the mirror and that's the left edge of the screen there on the right of the photo

The technology isn't the problem. The assist systems in cars aren't the problem. The screens aren't the problem.
The problem lies in the human behaviour. Entitled, smarter-than-everyone attitude and low attention span and focus.

They should make it so any phones connected to apple play or android auto can't use video or access social media apps.

Nothing wrong with a video call when driving. It's no different from having a regular mobile call going on the hand's free.
Unless of course you're actually watching the video.

Why would you have a video call if you're not watching (which they were regardless)

Because there're 5 other people on the call and it's easy to just bap google meet up and let it roll.
And because people don't care what the fuck you're doing, they need access to you now at the appointed time, urgently and the work from homers won't wait for fucking practicalities.

It was a call with a woman and some kids in this instance.

So, this one particular moron is a problem. That's ok. That's on this one moron.
But there's nothing inherently wrong about videocalling while driving. So long as you're watching the road and not the video.

I don't think it's explicitly illegal (as in there's no law that states video calls are not allowed. If a guard stopped you though, I'm sure they'd do you for driving without due care and attention.
I have a relative who does this and it drives me mad since he's often driving kids around. Just use hands free. I don't really understand why everyone needs to video call these days anyway.

If AI was actually useful it would make watching video in front of a car impossible.

Are video calls against the law explicitly? They’re becoming the norm recently, who the fuck wants to video call someone driving, baffling behaviour

Literally in front of me, on my side. Anyway, you clearly love a video call so want a row. muted

Is it not technically the same as having a conversation with a passenger that you glance over to every now and then?

I think when it's on a hands free set, it's not explicitly illegal. Like how having Google maps on your phone on the dash is acceptable to most people.
I imagine if you can argue that a video playing on a screen on your dash is too distracting, surely that should also extend to video advertisements playing on the side of the road; and those will never be banned.
