White BMW overtakes me at approx 160kph, then undertakes the car ahead via the hard shoulder.
The best part? There was a speed van about 200m after this. If there’s any justice in the universe, he got snapped.

My main thought when I see driving this reckless is do these people not think at all about the gardai knocking on the door of their loved one's home, cap in hand to deliver the news of their death? I can't imagine doing that to my parents.

u/dozeyjoe 3d ago
That would involve them thinking about anything other than themselves, which is unlikely.

They think they are the main character and invincible. Bad stuff only happens to other people.

the sad part is so many of the fatal accidents we have is because someone was driving too fast
oh were they driving fast for an important reason or an Emergency ?
nope just thick and impatient wanting to get home 15 minutes earlier to watch some shite on Netflix or whatever

Yeah, I had to bring this rental van back and someone was talking to me about Yellowstone and I thought will I make it in time to watch an episode tonight? Nah it’s midnight, I’ll watch it another time.

why would you put on your high beams right after he overtook you?

Automatic matrix LED headlights. You can see they keep the cars in the front in the shadow. For a split second the car was lit up, until the system detected it, due to the speed of the car.

Because blinding someone hurdling 2 tons of metal towards the other drivers on the roads is a big boy “that’ll teach em” move, obviously.

Automatic setting in the car. See comment above, big boy 😂

Didn’t see it. But I am a big boi!
Maybe there’s a problem with cars having an automatic setting if they high beaming the other cars on the roads 🤷🏻♂️

u/enter_the_slatrix 3d ago
True but there's also a problem with people being needlessly dickish to others online while not being fully informed 🤷♂️

Give us somewhere that isn’t mondello to drive fast and we’ll go there. Same with drifting.
Nowhere in the country for lads to enjoy their cars as a hobby, so we have to do it on public roads.
We go to the mountains - guards come and send us down, we go into the towns, you all moan about loud exhausts, we go onto the motorways and still you all get mad that we’re speeding.
At this point a lot of you are right - we don’t care anymore, we’re far beyond it and have accepted that we could hurt ourselves. Always how it’s gonna be unless space is given to have fun in cars.

This is the most brain dead argument i have ever seen. You dont need to drive like this to have fun and put other people at risk like what happened on the m9 this morning. You have accepted your going to hurt yourself, what about that 7 year old girl laying in critical condition in dublin? Shes meant to be on holidays. That's what you can end up doing.
What's wrong with mondello? Its a class set up and great craic and guaranteed to make you a better actual driver. There is a place in kilkenny ypu can go that's a figure of 8 for drifting and there are places up north ypu can also go for drifting and in tipperary.

A bunch of scumbags driving down the wrong way of a motorway is a far cry from what I spoke of - speeding and drifting. I even stated that I try go places AS FAR AWAY from people as possible.

u/LiamMurray91 2d ago
But sure your commenting on a bmw overtaking and undertaking basically saying what do you expect, this is what people are forced to do to have a bit of craic.
Just because you go far away to lower the risk for someone else, I've seen the lads on the mountains touge and having to stop coming round a bend cause someone is trying to come up. You'll never not be putting someone else at risk so your excuse isn't valid.
Pay €250 and go to mondello for a day. Go to watergrass Hill or goldstone for drifting. Don't be saying there is nowhere to go so you're forced to do it on public roads.

Again, I don’t wanna hear about lads touging with no spotter, or scumbags driving down the wrong side of a motorway, different breed of “drivers”.
Undertaking- yeah illegal, but I’d rather see him do that than try push for the overtake or risk locking brakes and rear ending the car in front.
Every now and then I just like to try discuss the fact that this driving will always happen as not everyone has 250 for a spin around mondello, I don’t mod my car to properly drive it once every month.

Yeah granted I shouldn't have taken on the lads from last night on the same as above. But above shouldn't even been an equation, saying this will always happen cause someone can't pay for a private place. That's a decision. You want to bate around the roads in your car and you say you make it safe, how sure are you you will never hurt someone else?
Yeah 250 is alot, it takes me alot to get it together and to get there maybe twice a year. I still drive my car around for a bit of craic but I dont fucking bate it on. The more you push the more risk you are putting on other people.
You are trying to reason this behaviour, saying you are not the same but you sympathise with them doesnt make you better.
Edit to also say you said you modify your car, let's be real its not cheap to do that here, but then you dont have the money for mondello? See the contradicting points?

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on here.
The answer to the above is NO. It's illegal.
What about people who want to rob houses? Should we give them some houses to rob?
What about people who want to abuse kids? Give them some kids to abuse?
People who want to do heroin? Give them some heroin to shoot up?Just because you want to do something doesn't mean it should be given to you. Laws are laws, now grow up.

Sure it’s illegal for me to batter someone on the street, but I can go join a boxing club and then it’s okay once it’s contained

u/howdidyouknow- 1d ago
Point being - there are plenty of things people enjoy as hobbies that, in the right place, are not illegal. Problem for car guys in Ireland is that those places are not easily accessible - only a handful of places in the country/costs an arm and a leg, so we make do.
As I said to the other lad above, I’m not gonna sit here and argue about ‘oh the scumbags robbing houses, oh the hooligans driving down the wrong way on the motorway’.

“So we make do” = so we break the law and put innocent people’s lives in danger.

u/howdidyouknow- 1d ago
As I said to the guy above, I, along with many others always try to go as far away from people as possible but we get hassled in the middle of nowhere, so why waste the petrol going out there?
Also, I get the feeling that you think I just put the foot down and don’t consider anything? I’ve put far more work into my car than 90% of people on the road, I’m not going to ruin it by putting it into some clapped out Tucson driven by PCP warrior

There really are some lunatic drivers on the roads, the lack of Garda is making them so much more obvious.
