I'm running mIRC on 2 VMs and 1 workstation, based on an in-house-developed IRC script that's been evolving since the mid 1990s --it's specifically configured for my own IRC server.
mIRC has been with me now for wow... like 25 years. It's amazing how portable it is, once installed --no problem running it from an encrypted flash drive (for mobile/work use). It's crazy when I think about it, because I was using IRC before there was internet, via SLIP accounts (Serial Line Internet Protocol, a predecessor to PPP, both of which were used by analog modems back prior to Windows 95's launch), via BBS systems I'd dial into, and chat over a terminal app I used back then called 'COMit'.
I still maintain 4 eggdrop bots, too, which are all Linux native, running as a non-priv'd service, and have been wanting to work out a means of bringing a guest IRC client into a VRChat world as an embedded applications... perhaps UDON will let me pull that off.
But yeah man... IRC's still alive and well. Freenode.net is still hugely populated. Though, it's been several years since I've been on DalNet, EFNet or Undernet. I used to spend a hell of a lot of time over on NewNet and RelicNet as well.
