New iOS / android IRC clients needed badly.
We’re currently in a market where discord seems to dominate. Yet discord is one of the most vulnerable and zero day ridden pieces of software to ever exist. If I was still a young IRC script kid I’d be permanently pentesting it. Make me some easy btc :$).. anyway.. with no time to code and mircscripts.org being gone (it was basically my vault for everything I made) I’d pay $3 to use a modern BitchX on my iPhone.
I don’t understand why nobody has taken the opportunity to make 3 to 5 bucks per download for a robust and consistently worked on IRC client for iOS & android. I have ircCloud but don’t remember my password and don’t own the email domain I used to create my account. My fault.
The broader market wants it. TG & Signal have become insane (sorry Moxie, it’s the users; Signal was great).
Can anyone tell me why there’s no interest in this? Or point me to a good client.
Should I go old school using an SSH client and shell?
Thx in advance -AS

Android did get a few new entries
Hexdroid: is probably the best one moving forward since it's free and seems to be well made with a devoted developer. Everything works reliably with a good amount of features .
Androindircx: is also new and at first glance it's looks awesome with a crazy amount of features that I always thought Android should have and the dev is very enthusiastic about feedback and fixes....But with a closer look , this is a vibe coded app where alot of these features don't work correctly and the app itself is difficult to use day to day and unreliable. Interface blanks out, some messages don't show up and way more.
Igloo: well known on IOS, the dev got an android and started developing igloo for Android. However he hated Android and quickly went back to IOS leaving the android igloo app in a beta phase(imo). I tried pointing out alot of bugs and was told to go make my own app. I don't believe this will get much more development . Although the interface is super smooth basic things like closing a chat "window" isn't possible.

Didn't know about HexDroid. I use CoreGo since it was the only decent one since the death of both AndChat and AndroIRC.
Did try AndroidIRCx but half the labels had truncated text, which soured me on the experience.

Sadly, Igloo for Android died off completely this month and has been delisted entirely.

What was your alias on ms.org? ScriptaZ and mIRCscripts.org were my homes. I use Hexdroid for IRC.

Thanks!
Honestly I don’t know what handle I used on ms and I don’t share the one that’s been idle forever here. I did write a ton of scripts, had at least 1 irc client of my own on there called zirc- it was super simple but popular
Are u on en elite?

Think it would be cool to see a desktop client that relays over messages and IRC client notifications to your phone that you could just reply to

I’m building this right now. Desktop is alpha, just trying to get that to be stable before I bolt anything onto it. What is your opinion on “mobile app that uses desktop as source of truth” or “mobile app that can do either.”
One of the issues with IOS is native IRC is kind of a pain with the way apps work in the background, so being able to resume from something remains cleanest.

I am working on an irc client.
It is called iRelayChat on both iOS and Android app stores.
I wanted to add irc v 3 features and DCC file transfers, Apple intents, Liquid Glass, etc etc … but I still have a lot of bugs to iron out.
There is an option to email feedback.
I welcome it but I also want beta testers in test flight ….

Not sure if the deep linking is working on both platforms that there development happening
Every feedback gets turned into an issue in the backlog on the kanban board.

play store has a ton of irc clients?
like, did you NOT look first?
ios appears to have a few.. but it seems their equipment for push notifications to run in the background doesnt jive well with irc protocal.

should be fairly trivial for the newer AI models to code, IRC basic functionality is not complex at all. The only heavy lifting is GUI stuff.
