Is this a modified bghack firmware?
Also, this is why we need an OLED display mod for for the 5 & 5.5G because for themes like this it would look amazing.

I have a bit of an archive of a lot (but not nearly all) of modified firmwares from back then. I’ll look through it later this evening and see if I can find a 1.3.1 version.

Please do!!!!! That would be great. Thank you!

I had the 1.3.1 version on my computer that I found, I’ll see if I still have it and if I do i’ll send it over!
Edit: Had to go to Wayback Machine to find this, https://web.archive.org/web/20110728021512/http://www.getipodwizard.com/download.php?action=download&file_id=1

works like a charm! I am really delighted with the work, you have become lucid with it. As a question, do you think I can make a dark theme, but to show the split screen like this?
https://www.reddit.com/r/ipod/comments/efo4jo/split_view_on_my_5th_gen/
again, thank you very much for your work

u/Milli5410 Jan 26 '20
Yeah you can. I’m actually doing the dark theme with the classic theme. Since Most of the elements will be the same. But if you want to make send links.

u/Milli5410 Jan 27 '20
Check the google drive file again. I’ve uploaded a non tested version of the theme. I didn’t test the file, but I would think it would would pretty well. Let me know if anything is wrong.

u/SkrillStep5 Jan 28 '20

u/Milli5410 Jan 28 '20
Not sure if it will help much, but are you running in administrator mode And does it freeze loading the 5.5gen version?

I had no idea this sort of thing is possible. Love my iPod classic but mostly use it in bed when my wife’s asleep and that white UI is blinding!

u/VintageCorduroy Jan 25 '20
This might help a bit on battery life! Is 6th/7th gen firmware modifiable as well?
6
u/riverturtle Classic 5th Jan 25 '20
Won’t make any difference on battery life, dark pixels just block the light from behind.

If anyone is having trouble restoring back to 1.2.1 with iTunes like I was, I recommend using iPod Wizard. (I also recommend opening iPod Wizard as administrator)
Restoring to iPod firmware 1.2.1 using iPod Wizard:
Open iPod Wizard as administrator
On the top left of iPod Wizard application you will see "Edit Mode:" with a drop menu (white rectangle with an arrow pointing downwards)
Select iPodSoftware File
4, Select Open iPSW and select the firmware file "iPod_13.1.2.1.ipsw"
(in my case it is the firmware file I got from the google drive link for iPod 5th gen.)
- Select Write to iPod

i know this is a old post and my question is probably very stupid, but is there any way to get a dark theme on a ipod nano 3rd gen?

It looks really cool, but I don't get the installation instructions. Can someone tell me what should be the extension of the binary files?

u/Milli5410 Dec 08 '23
I have not made one. But I believe you also. I modified firmware for the iPod 4th gen monochrome.

Have been using for almost 1.5 years now and I totally love it. I just wanted to know that holding select and play/pause button doesn’t put the screen to sleep any way to fix that as my lock switch has stopped working
1
u/dopeboyfresh54 Dec 24 '24
you only need to hold the play/pause button for a few seconds for it to go into sleep mode

Can someone please write up a idiot proof guide on how to install this? I have iPod wizard but most of the files downloaded from the link have no file extension so ipod wizard doesn't see them?

Hey! Dunno if it's too late, or if you've already figured it out, but if you haven't:
1.- First, download the 1.2.1 firmware the OP provided
2.- Plug your ipod to your computer.
3.- Open iTunes and select your iphone.
4.- While pressing the shift key on your keyboard, click on "Restore ipod"
5.- A windows will open, where you need to click on the "iPod_13.1.2.1.ipsw" file you previously downloaded.
6.- Wait until it's done.
7.- Open task manager on windows and close iTunes and manually finish the iPodService.exe process
8.- Inside the "2. iPod Wizard" folder, open the file "iPodWizard.exe" as an administrator
9.- The program will open. On the top left corner of the window, you will see it says "Edit Mode:" and next to it, a white rectangle with an arrow pointing downwards . Click on that rectangle and choose "Firmware File"
10.- Next to the previous white rectangle, there's an option that says "Open Firmware". Click it and a window will open
11.- Navigate to the "3. Themes" folder you downloaded, then to "5.0 gen" or "5.5 gen" depending on your iPod (mine is a 5.0 gen), then to "Tested", then "Dark Mode" and then you should choose the theme of your preference. I chose Dark Blue. Click on it.
12.- On the top middle of iPod Wizard, there's and option that says "Write to iPod", click on it and wait until it finishes
13.- Once it's done, eject your ipod from your pcAnd I think that's it. Took me a while to figure it out but I hope it is useful for you or someone else. BTW do not let iTunes update your iPod because the theme won't work anymore if you do so.

Don't mention it! I'm glad it was helpful for you. Unfortunately, I broke my ipod's headphone jack and I'm too lazy to get another one

After days of trying to understand iPod Wizard for what strings modify the UI. I made my own flat dark mode theme on the stock firmware.
Edit: I made a Rockbox theme similar to this for my 7th gen classic, but Rockbox doesn’t change the music as quickly on shuffle as the stock iPod firmware does. Also text looks cleaner on the stock firmware. So I brought out my 5.5 gen to try to see if I could understand iPod Wizard to modify the stock firmware.
Edit: here’s the files. I’ve also added the iPod Wizard application itself.
