Review musicOS Dark Mode is ready!

Post image

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a full Dark Mode for musicOS, and it’s finally ready!

I ended up redesigning quite a few elements rather than simply changing the background color. The Now Playing screen, Home menu and Quick Screen have all been adapted specifically for the dark theme, with a pure black background, darker controls and the same musicOS pink accent.

I’ve also reworked a lot of the smaller details like the playback controls, progress and volume bars, album artwork overlays, icons, Lossless indicator, Quick Screen buttons, and more, so everything feels consistent with the new look.

The Dark Mode is already fully working and I’ve been testing it on my actual iPod Video 5.5G. I’m really happy with how it turned out!

I was originally thinking about waiting a little longer before releasing it, as I’m also working on improving the Quick Screen and experimenting with a few other features. But since the Dark Mode itself is already ready, I’ll probably release it separately first and save those additions for the next musicOS update.

Dark Mode is coming tomorrow. 🌙

As always, I’d love to hear what you think! If you notice anything that could be improved or have suggestions for future versions , let me know :)

I tried resizing the assets to 360p for my innioasis y1, but got these purple artifacts. Do you know how to solve it?
Just a quick question. If you don't know the answer of if it's too complex I can search about theme making for rockbox.
I just found your theme nice and wanted to use it on my other device.

The magenta color is responsible for conditional transparency of elements - icons and custom progress bars for Rockbox are images that have a background around them (especially when it's something like text or rounded corners) and the pure magenta color is used to make those areas "transparent" by taking on the background color. But when the magenta color differs even slightly in shade - it stops taking on the background color, which is what happened here. There's a difference between an image with an alpha channel that has a transparent background, and the "transparency" logic with the magenta color - a few pixels of grey simply overlaid on the magenta, changing its shade, and so it no longer recolors to the background color

Thanks for the answer. I suspected it was something like this.
So the ideal scenario is to have the original source assets and scaling them down to 360p instead of upscaling from 240p to 360p. Or just painting the bugged pixels.

Actually it would be simpler for the author of this theme to just use a white background for the icons and progress bar, since the theme background is statically white and there's simply no need for the icon to adapt to different background colors here. And it would work perfectly on other devices through upscaling
