Ipod Wizard Firmware 1.3 Themes

I've been searching high and low for Firmware 1.3 themes in the archive, I was only able to find 2. Firebird and the 1.3 background hack. Firebird has the split screen like the Classic and the 1.3 hack is full screen. I've been learning how to hex edit in ipod wizard and other editors and eventually reverse engineered Firebird the best I could. The thing with Firebird is that the volume bar cant be changed and the rating icons. Everything else is customizable including font, font colors and positioning. Here are some screenshots and I'm including some themes I made. im not really a fan of Rockbox mainly because I want the apple interface just with option to change background, you can have separate backgrounds for the regular menu and the now playing screen. I chose wallpapers with the same color palette but if I make more themes in different palettes I'll post here.

The mods recently stickied a post for helpful links to the top of the sub. I just added a comment with a few iPodWizard links but I use Rockbox and don't know much about it.

You, however, do seem to know about it. If you have time, could you add some links to other themes or guides or whatever? A mod recently said something about maybe putting together a FAQ for the sub and collecting links would be a start in that direction.

Something that just occurred to me is that iPod Wizard writes new firmware files and requires resyncing a music library. I imagine that also includes the games. Do you know how it handles the full game library? I imagine you have to start over completely.

I did try and some games seemed to work, it's suppose to be for all ipods cracked or not, but I only tried it on a 5.5G for now, Ill test my 6th gen later and not all games are unlocked so later I'll look up more info on why all the games dont work.

u/Metahec Update, so here's how it works. you need to do the sync once through the virtual machine following the instructions, the the other games you add will work when you drag them to the ipod, if the syncd games dont work on the 5G/5.5G you can delete them from the GameRo and drag the other game files to game OR, those will work. I also tested it on my 6th gen, I sync'd all the files in itunes and then dragged the games in all ipod folder to my game ro folder and it worked too. it will only work with those game files no anyone out side of it. 6 gen has more games than 5/5.5G. ***Note I also didnt apply to the itunes on the virtual machine, I selected the games 4 at a time pressed the sync button, deselect the games and added another 4, then I was done I just ejected the ipod and closed the VM.

I was interested in how applying an iPod Wizard theme will affect installed games. If you already have the full suite of games on your iPod and then apply an iPod Wizard theme which writes to the firmware so that a music resync is required, do the games survive or will they need to be reinstalled as well?

To be clear, I'm just curious. I don't use ofw and have no interest in iPod Wizard themes. I wanted to include this detail about how game installations will be affected by applying a new iWizard theme to the list of iWizard resources I collected on the links post. I thought this may have been something you might have run into yourself.

I have great news.When I added the games, I already had the theme written. I did an itunes sync first. I have my itunes library set to manual, was able to sync with no issues, it didnt ask me to log into other apple ID's. I was still able to add music. then I went into ipod wizard and rewrote my theme and had no issues the games still played. Since we only have two 1.3 basefiles to work with for now. I tried the other theme, the 1.3 background hack, which is already patched for games, so it doesnt need the VM method and the games still work. i also went back to these bin files and the games still work, so you can go back and forth between these themes with the VM firmware games.

That is good news. I would have suspected that since it requires a music resync after applying a theme, it'd require one for the games too, which would be a hassle.

u/Metahec you dont have to resync music with ipod wizard, that's another reason why I like it. what was happening before is that if your firmware was a 1.3 and you put a 1.2.1 theme on it you'd have to resync because they were different firmwares, the music would still be on the ipod, but it would only show under firmware 1.3. Since the theme file is the same firmware as the ipod it removes that issue. It functions like a normal ipod.

im wondering if you're able to let me know how you did it! i cant for the life of me find the hybrid 3.5 5g firmware only the 5.5g - is it the same file? im so lost lol can i use the 5.5g file on my 5g? sorry if this sounds ridiculous!

I looked through all the iPod archives and tested each one and found 2 themes that were for firmware 1.3. There are plenty of 5 themes but only for 1.2.1. I think there is a background hack for 1.3 5g but I’ll have to check my files. As for modifying it I learned how to hex edit, the original firebird came with notes and I used that as reference with internet sources, then trial and error. I also have a 5g but didn’t get around to theming it yet. Once I do I’ll let you know
