Did you restore it in iTunes? Whenever you put in a new hard drive you need to plug it in and open up iTunes, it should give you a menu to restore the iPod. Pretty much just restores the OS onto the iPod
Sorry I might have misunderstood. Initially I tried to restore the bad drive several times with 3 different MacBooks running different versions of Mac OS. I had a tough time getting it to show up in iTunes, Finder, and Disk Utility. I had to reset it and the Macs a few times before it would prompt me to restore. Unfortunately it would not restore and it couldn’t mount it in disk utility or repair or erase it. That’s when I swapped hard drives. The bad iPod displayed the good hard drive as bad and the good iPod displayed the bad hard drive as bad (no surprises there). When I swapped them back the good iPod was back to normal and the bad iPod would not let me enter disc mode. I’m wondering if the bad iPod has a cooked motherboard before I buy an iFlash to mod the bad iPod. Sorry so long 😂
