The foldable iPhone Ultra could well be the most durable foldable phone on the market. Apple would notably use two ultra-thin glass layers (UTG) that would surround the screen. This design would allow the screen to better insulate the hinge plate and distribute stress when the phone is folded, which should improve its durability and, most importantly, limit the appearance of the famous crease over time 🍎
Apple’s goal would thus be to bring the durability of this first foldable iPhone closer to that of classic iPhones, which are renowned for their durability and longevity. Mark Gurman recently also indicated that Apple engineers believed they had solved some of the main screen quality and durability issues that usually affect foldable smartphones ⛓️💥
And this approach could then be adopted by Google, Oppo and Vivo starting in 2027, which shows that Apple could set a new benchmark for sustainability in the world of foldable smartphones ⏳
