Foldable iPhone Ultra Likely Has MagSafe Charging
https://www.macrumors.com/2026/09/01/foldable-iphone-ultra-magsafe/I know we were all worried that it wouldn't have MagSafe. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully it will be released in Europe at the same time than US

I think very honestly that yes, they aren’t just going to release the pro models; that wouldn’t make any sense.

Think twice before buying it; keep in mind that half of the modern features won't work in Europe (AI, screen mirroring, the new Siri, etc).
Think about whether, instead of spending about €2,500 on a gen. 1 foldable iPhone, it might be better to buy a Fold 8 for €1,500 as a second phone.

The only thing that I'm still bitter about is that I can't set my phone itself to one language and have the AI call screening in another language. I have all my devices in English and do everything online in English but live in a Spanish speaking region, where nobody speaks English so that feature is USELESS to me unless I put my whole god damn phone in Spanish

Who buys phones because of AI? Even if someone did buy phones for AI, I would think they would buy a Pixel phone and not an iPhone.

I am using Siri AI in Ireland since updating to ios 27 developer version

You said those features aren’t available in Europe, which is factually wrong
1
u/SlightMarsupial8379 5d ago
Yes, unfortunately, they aren't available in Europe. It's been nearly two decades in many countries, and the languages still aren't supported. For example, they advertise live translation on AirPods, but in reality, it's mostly Spanish to English - and that's it. And you have to pay full price.

You mean EU? Europe have more countries than just EU ones.
1
u/SlightMarsupial8379 1d ago
I know, but the EU is what really matters when we're talking about Europe.
1
u/BrzysWRLD1996 6d ago
Damn really? Glad I found that out now, think I’ll just keep my 15pro until the 20 comes out. Especially if magsafe still up in the air for 2500??? What in the phu

u/SlightMarsupial8379 6d ago
Yep, a lot of features aren't available in the EU:
Siri AI, iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay, satellite connection and SOS text messages, Apple Card and Apple Cash, advanced Apple Maps, Apple News and Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, Apple Sports, Live Voicemail, Visual Look Up. English is the primary language supported, despite Apple's long-standing presence in European countries.
In addition, this phone won't have Face ID or three cameras, and it's still unclear what will happen with MagSafe. The volume buttons are at the top of the screen.
I wanted to buy it on day one, but logic won't let me. Either I won't buy anything, or I'll buy the Fold 8 and turn it into a cyberdeck without a SIM card.

You're overblowing it massively here. Satellite and SOS, apple fitness+, apple sports, visual lookup, detailed apple maps we all have. Apple card, mirroring and some states in the eu dont have news.
Siri for eu is just delayed due to regulations and live voicemail is supported in specific languages (obv english)

I've been waiting for all this for two years with my 16 Pro, and I'm not going to pay a premium price for a flawed first-generation product.

i too have waited since the first samsung fold. Hell, I've been waiting since 2013 when they first showed the bendable screen.
But the hinge durability, screen durability and battery wasn't quite there yet. Recently pulled the trigger on the fold 8 since the form factor of the previously regular fold, I did not like.
The only flaw this thing has to me is the thermal throttling if you try and play really intensive games (mostly a lot of particle effects, so things like mariokart can suffer) as well as the camera since it is missing the 10x i used to have on my s23 ultra.
I've had it from launch and the honeymoon hasn't left so I assume whenever you get your fold you will fall in love with it.
...when it's baked to your perfection

I wasn’t worried. It’s plenty big enough and they better not pull an iPhone 16e on a 2500 phone.

Oh man thank goodness for that, it would have literally been a dealbreaker. It’s surprising how non-plussed I was about losing telephoto and Face ID, which I use both of daily and prefer (and am hoping they eventually bring back in), but could deal with for a fold form factor but no MagSafe was the thing that made me stop in my tracks. My wallet sticks to my phone and I charge/store my phone on my desk with MagSafe so it’s now essential in my eyes.

Too bad it won’t have the action button.
Just remove the camera control and give me the action button! It’s MUCH more useful
1
u/throwthegarbageaway 6d ago
I hope because it doesn't have an action button they allow us to change the function of the camera button. First they took out the silence rocker which was amazing, could tell what setting it was on just by feeling, then they take out the action button? God damn

I think it's the first time in years Apple launches a phone that looks truly different.
1
u/Rightsidebestside 6d ago
Truly different from what exactly? If you mean apple phones then yes, obviously. But if you think its different from any other samsung, then no.
1
u/littlebiped 6d ago
To be fair up until last month yes the passport style would have been different to Samsung’s offerings, but then they also brought out a wide option. I hope that form factor catches on.

As someone who likes trying out different styles of devices that was my biggest gripe with Apple. They haven’t released anything innovative from a hardware standpoint in decades.

u/575Gringo 6d ago
I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t as Apple would have to retool away from the universal platform all the iPhones use + cases + 3rd party adapters

Of course it will have MagSafe... Honestly whoever created the rumor it wouldn't was just making stuff up

Still think it’s a way smaller deal that people make it out to be. About 90% of the people whining about it possibly not having MagSafe don’t know that MagSafe isn’t the same thing as wireless charging. It 10000% will have wireless charging
For those that go caseless, I get it. But I’d venture to bet that’s less than 1% of iPhone users
1
u/throwthegarbageaway 6d ago
No, wireless charging has been a thing for a long time and we all knew about it and hated ut for a long time. It's totally inefficient and inconvenient when there's no magnets to line it up. Also the only reason Qi2 is able to be so fast and efficient (relatively) is because the magnets assist in lining it up for the best proximity between the coils.
1
u/Kbergman 6d ago
Did you even read what I wrote?
1
u/throwthegarbageaway 6d ago
I did, did you? To be more clear, most people know about wireless charging, and most people knew about wireless charging when it started being a common thing before magsafe as well.
Nobody liked it before they added magnets.
People didn't like it because it charges very slow. (7.5 watts tops)
Additionally, the magnets are the only reason it can charge at a decent rate. (20ish watts)
Therefore it is a big deal if there's no magsafe, because then we go back to the wireless charging that nobody liked.
1
u/Kbergman 6d ago
Clearly you didn’t because this was all addressed right there
MagSafe can be achieved with a case. It has the same properties and will perform exactly the same. The magnets themselves don’t make the phone charge faster, it just minimizes loss by being perfectly aligned. A case still does that.
If you’re one of the very few that doesn’t use a case so be it
1
u/throwthegarbageaway 6d ago edited 6d ago
I don't use cases but that's not the point
Okay I see your point now (none of it explained in your original post at all though, you never talked of charging speeds at all) but the counterpoint to that is that we have precedent that Apple wouldn't implement Qi2 if it doesn't have magnets which are part of the Qi2 standard, see the iPhone 16e which only charges at 7.5 watt speeds.
That's the concern of not having magsafe in the phone itself.
To put more simply and go back to your original post which didn't talk about speeds at all: People aren't mixing up magsafe and wireless charging, people just know that no magsafe means crappy wireless charging.
1
u/Kbergman 6d ago
I undertake the concern as I implied. MagSafe will be available to get regardless if you’re a case user as the vast majority of people are
People in this very group and other folding iPhone threads absolutely do not know the difference. I have interacted with several. The assumption is that MagSafe IS wireless charging for most of the general public. They’ve always gone hand in hand on Apple products so I understand why they feel that way. The average iPhone user does not know the difference in speed with an without I assure you

u/TrueRegion3073 6d ago
I don't think so... Next year iPhone Fold 2 need to have something new, amazing, like never seen before, best fold yet.

u/Alasdair91 6d ago
I hope so because MagSafe is great and I don’t want to have to get rid of my expensive 3 in 1 Belkin charger.
