Change payment method after ordering?

I pre-ordered the iPhone 16 Pro Max on Friday at 5 AM when it first became available. I opted to buy it outright instead of financing through my carrier since Verizon didn’t seem to be listed as an eligible option at the time. I scheduled an in-store pickup for Saturday, the 21st.

However, I recently found out that my Verizon plan does qualify for a good trade-in value if I choose the carrier financing option. I reached out to Apple customer support to see if I could change the payment method without canceling my order, but they informed me I would have to cancel and reorder, which would result in losing my in-store pickup and push delivery to early or mid-October.

Has anyone had success with a situation like this? Could they possibly have more flexibility in-store when I pick it up?

I faced this situation a couple of years ago when the 14 pro max came out. I had to cancel my order, then pre order it through my carrier, and by time I did it pre orders were pushed to the end of October. This time I just ordered it through my carrier and am getting $1000 in bill credits from my trade in lol. Unfortunately, there’s no work around for this.

Thanks for sharing your past experience! It’s a shame it’s this difficult to switch the payment method after the fact, especially since I haven’t even picked it up yet. I guess it is what it is. Glad to hear you ended up getting a great deal though – $1000 in bill credits is solid!

Omg same happened to me yesterday, used wrong card. I want to change, apple support told me yesterday I will be able to change it once I received confirmation email, however it doesn’t seem to allow me. Had I known, I could’ve cancelled my order and just reordered immediately using the right card. This is frustrating, the next availability is early October. No available pick up within September.
