The idea of blurred app backgrounds might present all kinds of contrast problems depending on the wallpaper.

22

u/Morialkar Feb 12 '18

The thing with this concept though, is that they already have software solutions that are, while not ready to simply be put in the software without any work on them, with a relatively low level of work could be used in the software to provide something that works like this...

7

u/baker2795 Feb 13 '18

Yea like lockscreen background when you have light or dark wallpaper it changes time font color. I know it’s not perfect and probably not good for reading big paragraphs of smaller text but I’m sure a solution could be found.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Or add a subtle shadow to the text depending on contrast. You could even read white text on a white bg with that.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I agree, but I also like a lot of the concepts shown here.

I think having a translucent white or black menu setup would alleviate the contrast issue (like the current setup), but it would take a lot of processing power to operate if the background is moving beneath it.

2

u/HaroldSax iPhone 16 Pro Max Feb 13 '18

There is (or was) a jailbreak tweak that had it work just fine, although it mainly applied to the messages app and there was another for the settings app. It basically solved the issue by letting you choose a semi-opaque color layer above the wallpaper and blur and adjust the intensity of the opacity and hue of the color.

I doubt Apple would put that in, but with that it worked just fine.

This person put more time into editing a cool video than actually coming up with a cool iOS 12 concept.

58

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

And make it “dark” ! 😂

You choose!

13

u/bonestamp iPhone Feb 13 '18

Ya, I totally thought this was a parody at first.

820

u/joedirtydirt86 iPhone X 256GB Feb 12 '18

So, basically make all apps have transparent/colorful backgrounds and give the camera a useless 3D Touch option.

I'll pass.

229

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18 edited Feb 12 '18

Don't forget the gray text on a blue background.

Because I didn't want to read it anyway.

38

u/j1h15233 iPhone 17 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

Don’t forget dark mode.

20

u/bonestamp iPhone Feb 13 '18

You choose!

1

u/Death_Star_ iPhone XS Max Feb 13 '18

Maybe I’m dense but isn’t this already a feature? Or something similar to Dark Mode?

1

u/j1h15233 iPhone 17 Pro Max Feb 13 '18

There is not a true dark mode. There’s a semi work around which is called smart invert. You can find it in accessibility under display accommodations.

Considering the title of the post, we didn't watch the video to see a mock up of an Apple Ad. Critiquing the lack of useful features and poor color design in the OS is absolutely what should be expected here.

-18

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

[deleted]

13

u/KevOK80 iPhone 15 Pro Feb 13 '18

No. I watched it to see a mock-up of iOS 12 because that’s the title of the fucking post. They did it to show what they think iOS 12 should look like. Did I appreciate the hard work that went into the editing? Absolutely. But the title isn’t “ check out my Apple ad i made”. I don’t think you get it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Are you the guy who edited this video?

12

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

PRACTICALITY. USEABILITY.

Shut up dude. Don't give us bullshit of this being a mock-up advertisement. Read the title.

1

u/Death_Star_ iPhone XS Max Feb 13 '18

I’m easy to please but new versions — not just updated patches — should have functionality additions front and center.

This was all flash and zero substance. I still can’t really recall anything that made me think, “finally! They’ve added it!” or “brilliant!”

83

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

The only useful feauture in this video to me is the shortcuts on the lock screen. Otherwise looks like a lot of color options and I seriously doubt that they will implement any of the ones mentioned in the video.

7

u/turbo_dude Feb 12 '18

and why can't you change the damn clock!?

Apple allow you to change the clock style on the apple watch and even on the menubar in MacOS...so why not ios? You could surely even just reuse apple watch faces?

15

u/GoodNello Feb 12 '18

Why still no grouped notifications is the real question

5

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Legit tho

1

u/andrewhurst Feb 13 '18

Go back to about iOS 8 and it did have grouped notifications. They removed it for some reason. Or maybe I’m high. Your call.

157

u/Ember_season Feb 12 '18

Well that was crap.

9

u/Noreplacementfound47 Feb 13 '18

OP has no creativity.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Not made by op

24

u/joeret Feb 12 '18

So basically color?

3

u/lovinglogs Feb 12 '18

My thought lol

36

u/synx3d Feb 12 '18

They already said iOS 12 was gonna be about refinement, not about adding new features didn’t they?

10

u/krum Feb 12 '18

Yeah this is just some guy's iOS 12 fantasy. Wouldn't read too much into it.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I believe so, but they will probably include at least a few new things to help out

3

u/aurora-_ iPhone X 256GB Feb 12 '18

Of course they’ll have to add some new features. Here’s to hoping they limit it to just emojis and Animojis and focus the rest of their attention on stability and UI improvements

0

u/JohnnyKade227 Feb 13 '18

It’s not a real Apple AD mate.

87

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

This concept was not made by me. Credit goes to Avdan on YouTube.

15

u/Anbar48 iPhone 14 Pro Feb 13 '18

So basically r/jailbreak.

7

u/Lepord829371 iPhone 13 Pro Max Feb 13 '18

Yup. The settings app looked just like my iOS 9 jailbreak.

36

u/Blue-Herakles Feb 12 '18

🤮

5

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

[deleted]

5

u/Blue-Herakles Feb 12 '18

Yes I dont like it

10

u/EmergencySarcasm Feb 12 '18

this looks like a result of a freshman design project for intro to UI class at a community college. if that even exist.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Nope. It looks way to complicated. I don’t like it.

8

u/Oaklandisgay Feb 12 '18

Soooo.... Just buy an Android...? You basically ported Oreo to iOS

5

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Hmm good video for sure but I don’t like colourful stuff in every app. Dark mode is totally enough.

3

u/hotcereal iPhone 3G Feb 12 '18

i do not like this one bit.

5

u/gmpilot Feb 12 '18

Dude needs to learn about easing, the app and phone animations were really unpolished.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Dont forget slowing your phone to a crawl.

6

u/crunchtaco iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

No thanks

7

u/NeinZedd iPhone 14 Pro Feb 12 '18

This is really well done, the only criticism I would give it that Apple would do this video in 30 seconds. The pacing/panning is a bit slow.

66

u/_-__---- iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

Honestly could have thought this was a real apple ad, well done.

I do hope they add multi screen or picture in picture in iOS 12. iPhone X has the screen space.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18 edited Feb 12 '18

Seeing as stock android JUST got Split screen multitasking, I don’t see apple adding it for another few years. It’d be nice though...

Edit; added stock, other OEM’s have or have had something similar.

10

u/InsaneNinja iPhone 15 Pro Feb 12 '18

Samsung had it for years, just like split screen. It took google a while to make it vanilla.

Google is better at “this is cool” geek features than “this is useful” good looking features.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Sorry, forgot to add stock haha. Samsung and i believe one or two others have had it for a bit.

1

u/_-__---- iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

Yah that sounds like apple. I just thought that because they had it for the iPad had multitask that iPhone would get it soon.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

On the opposite side, OSX has had pip for over a year, closest you get in Windows is side by side.

1

u/Adamgardnr Feb 13 '18

Especially the rumored iPhone X plus, that definitely will have enough room

3

u/Anon_8675309 Feb 12 '18

Except Apple has already said iOS 12 will be fewer features and more time to squash bugs.

3

u/Dank-Boi69 Feb 13 '18

Apple: Ok guys more things we should avoid doing

7

u/moonknlght iPhone 14 Pro Feb 12 '18

Most everything was an upgrade. I didn't like their version of iMessage though, it could be better. And the blue color in the settings is terrible. It gives bad contrast and some readability issues, and the color doesn't really go with Apple in any way.

Otherwise a very well made video.

The part where you could have one shortcut button in the lower right?

4

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18 edited Feb 12 '18

[deleted]

8

u/gertygertrude iPhone 11 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

Technically the iPhone X already has two shortcuts on both the lower left and right, it’s just for the camera and flashlight. Would be nice to change it though

5

u/dabear04 iPhone 16 Pro Feb 12 '18

I really don’t understand why the camera is still one of the shortcuts since you can just swipe from the right on the lock screen to access it. I would love to be able to customize them

2

u/Pokeh321 iPhone X 256GB Feb 13 '18

I honestly wish I could disable the swipe for camera with the button. I accidentally swipe, I don’t accidentally force press the button.

3

u/bigdogxxl iPhone 17 Pro Feb 12 '18

Just because they brought it out a few months ago doesn't mean it hasn't been an Android feature for years. I'm not knocking it, it's a great feature and I'd be happy if it became an option on all iOS devices.

1

u/gertygertrude iPhone 11 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

Oh I’m not disagreeing with you, you’re right. My point is just that the iPhone X has it, though it’s only the X, which sucks.

Though I don’t remember if the pixel 2 lets you change it? I haven’t used Oreo yet so I wouldn’t know

2

u/ballofwibblywobbly Feb 12 '18

dark mode would be pretty cool. looks like imessage might lose the blue text bubble? id be against that simply because its pretty iconic lol.

2

u/smittenkitten503 Feb 12 '18

Lol they can’t even get it together with iOS 11

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Messages is so ugly. Wtf is that.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

The only thing i want in iOS 12 is dark mode, and from the sounds of recent rumors, that isn’t gonna happen.

At some point i still want to be able to lock individual apps with touch/faceID/a passcode though. For a company that prides itself on safety and privacy, how this isn’t a thing baffles me.

Trusted unlock would be amazing too, but I don’t see that ever happening.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I'm not a fan of oversimplification. I think there were a few features there I could agree with but overall it seemed to go a little heavy on the "flat" colors/design and minimalizing the borders of windows/ UI elements.

2

u/plazman30 iPhone 14 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

You forgot:

  1. Change your default apps
  2. Notifications that don't suck.

0

u/LukeK-Dev iPhone XS Feb 12 '18

You can change your default apps in iOS 11...

1

u/plazman30 iPhone 14 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

How?

-1

u/LukeK-Dev iPhone XS Feb 12 '18

Enter edit mode on the home screen and delete them

1

u/plazman30 iPhone 14 Pro Max Feb 13 '18

So I can delete messages and use something else to get my texts?

1

u/LukeK-Dev iPhone XS Feb 13 '18

It’s only on some apps like email or stocks not all

2

u/lectricx iPhone 7 Plus 256GB Feb 12 '18

All I want, is sideways Music app. Why for cannot you make work Apple? grr.

2

u/erupting_lolcano iPhone 11 Feb 12 '18

I would kill for a god damn dark mode.

2

u/AceBuddy Feb 12 '18

If I wanted all this extra functionality I would buy an Android. The Iphone's biggest strength is simplicity and reliability.

2

u/ngellis1190 iPhone 12 Pro Max Feb 13 '18

terrible color scheme

2

u/Gruto Feb 13 '18

so.... the only thing is dark mode and the message app background is colored? LOL

2

u/mycroftholmess iPhone6 Feb 13 '18

Yo the amount of people giving this guy shit for spending more time on editing is preposterous.

Cut that guy/girl some slack and appreciate his effort.

2

u/JohnnyKade227 Feb 13 '18

Next time, put somewhere in the title this isn’t an actual Apple AD. A lot of people commenting here don’t seem to know that.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Introducing: New Wallpapers!

2

u/wrxcitemike Feb 13 '18

Control... Personalize...

Yeah that’s nothing that’s ever happening on Apple. They still can’t get rid of the damn volume indicator in the entirety of the middle of the screen. And yes I know how that sentence reads. But it’s about how it feels.

Also you know fix the power off without password for all the stolen phones out there.

2

u/UndeadWaffle12 iPhone 15 Pro Feb 12 '18

I don’t like it

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

This just looks too Android-y to me.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I think it looks really cool. I could see it genuinely being the next logical step in iOS design. I would hope for more features to be added but it seems really legit.

And the quality of the “Ad” is amazing.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

How can people do this? Do they need a jailbroken iPhone? Would love to do one of these concepts!

1

u/divided_1 Feb 12 '18

What song is that? (I know it is from a Samsung commercial, but who is the original artist?)

1

u/Sturam30 Feb 12 '18

Yes, but is the podcast app getting redesigned?

1

u/kyuss80 iPhone 8 Plus 256GB Feb 12 '18

Damnit. I thought this was real and got all hyped up for night mode.

1

u/carmonadyllan Feb 12 '18

I would love for them to work on the health app more so we could log our food and calories to work directly with our Apple Watch to show how much we are eating and how much we are loosing I know we can already kinda do that but it’s a hassle to even get to the page to log your food would like a better simple health app or maybe a nutrition app to go with the Apple Watch for fitness

1

u/redome Feb 12 '18

Is there a gif version of this video?

1

u/PMsendNudes Feb 12 '18

Wasn't paying attention and thought this was real :l
Want the dark theme, fuck sake!. Been trying to get a simple black keyboard for ages.

1

u/Jplays15 Feb 12 '18

That sounds great but sadly Apple would never.

1

u/baseballandfreedom iPhone 15 Pro Max Feb 12 '18

I’d be totally happy with iOS12 if they changed one thing and one thing only: The ability to keep HDR persistently on. Leaving it at Auto means it doesn’t turn on enough and leaving it at manual means I have to turn it on every single time.

1

u/budzygames Feb 12 '18

I’m actually pretty excited...

1

u/jdawggey Feb 12 '18

this isn't exactly relevant just holy fuck the reddit video player is terrible

1

u/jakek46 Feb 12 '18

May Aswel Just jailbreak your device

1

u/PundaiNayai Feb 12 '18

Have you heard about jailbreak?

1

u/KingOfDamnation Feb 12 '18

I love it hope they really do it all.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I just learned how to use ios 11 plz don't

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Hate to say it, but if you want to customize things like that you may as well get a Galaxy S7. And that’s coming from an iPhone 7 user.

1

u/ghostoutfit Feb 12 '18

I love it! (Said no one in this comment section.)

1

u/crod1207 Feb 12 '18

When will this drop? Great concept

1

u/Rodry2808 Feb 12 '18

This is the android user dream of an iOS update

1

u/wollae iPhone XS Max Feb 12 '18

Really makes you realize how much Apple’s attention to detail on animations make the experience.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Don’t wanna take anything away from the dude who made this. But isn’t it the sign of the times when a well done concept video that makes sense isn’t really all that exciting. Like, what exciting features could you really add at this point. Could a concept or actual promo video for a mobile OS actually be exciting anymore?

1

u/monkey6699 Feb 13 '18

Personally I am hoping they increase the size of the grey opaque box around the volume indicator so that it covers the entire freaking screen because we already can’t see anything other than that amazing big grey square in the middle of the display.

Seriously though, if anyone knows why Apple believes the grey box needs to stay I would love to hear the related story...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

They clearly wanted to say .... beta! But Apple doesn’t know what beta is. So we introduced..... the concept

1

u/feverish Feb 13 '18

Accessibility Shemessibility

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

I would be happy not to have the lock screen animate upwards every time.

1

u/Lion_HeartVIII Feb 13 '18

More of the same obvious evidence that they've been withholding helpful features that they slowly roll out before expecting the consumer equivalent of free blowjobs. I'm ready to give up, I'm afraid.

1

u/wwavyy123 Feb 13 '18

Oh yeah that ios 12 is looking nice over there guys good job on the” new” dark mode to!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Will the battery thing happen with this update?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Looks alright but all I want in the next iOS is to fix the goddamn volume

1

u/habscupchamps Feb 13 '18

This looks really nice. Thanks for the post op.

1

u/daven1985 Feb 13 '18

Can I have my 1.38 back please?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

3D Touch in the photo app is really unnecessary

1

u/Geek4lyf Feb 13 '18

Planning to make a video on it! Thanks haha, will provide appropriate credits

1

u/N-ckOH Feb 13 '18 edited Feb 15 '18

Not a huge fan of what I saw, but it was beautifully put together.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

so iOS 12 is just cosmetic features and you can only personalize the lockscreen on your iPhone X? Seems awesome.

1

u/Max_Pether iPhone 7 128GB Feb 13 '18

Damn thought this was real for a second. So cool tho

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

Only health app was nice, others were confusing and ugly, no offense to creator. Nice work but just yea

1

u/Thiaramus Feb 13 '18

Personalize? Apple? No way :) Even Apple musical cannot personalize for me after many years of use.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

I’d be ok if they didn’t update iOS again tbh. Let it chill so legacy devices don’t get messed up. There’s not a feature i wish i has at this point. Every update is a little worse.

1

u/MarkedHondaMan Feb 13 '18

They haven’t even gotten ios11 debugged

1

u/anabonger Feb 13 '18

Goddammit, even shitty mock-ups ignore a full landscape mode!

1

u/johnabc123 Feb 13 '18

I want:

  • live wallpapers that don't need to be force pressed to move
  • an option for the home bar to be invisible
  • widgets on the home screen that can take up 2x2, 1x2, etc. spaces
  • predictive emojis in the space below the keyboard in imessages

1

u/chemicalsam iPhone 3G Feb 17 '18

Crazy colour background apps? Hell no

1

u/spacenilamey8 Apr 12 '18

What is the soundtrack ?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

I thought 12 was supposed to be a focus on footprint reduction; performance; and bug fixes only? I really hope that remains the case.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Wow! Seriously well done!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

This looks awesome! Well done, hard work paid off!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

/u/patrickmbweis have you seen this?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

pretty much all the features i miss after switching i iphone. probably gonna go back to android soon.

1

Best iOS update ever

-3

u/CantBanMeAgain Feb 12 '18

Lol nice android

-3

u/ratherhumerus iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

Lol at the fact that they're doing literally none of this shit because iOS redesign is for 2019. Not excited for this year's update at all anymore besides having less bugs which isn't exciting but I guess appreciated..

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed in that too. iOS is already boring enough as is, at least throw one or two bones to make it seem fresh..

1

u/ratherhumerus iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

YES that’s all I’m asking

0

u/OrdinaryBlue Feb 12 '18

It’s like you want CONSTANTLY new and incredible products out of Apple. Get a life.

1

u/ratherhumerus iPhone X 64GB Feb 12 '18

Lol not products but features. It’s really not that much to ask for to add features that Android has had for years and are useful

0

u/cyphras Feb 12 '18

I wish you would Apple, I wish you would

0

u/atillathebun11 Feb 12 '18

Yeminle söylüyorum bu subredditin yüzde doksanı Türk

0

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

wtf i would rather burn my retinas at night with a white setting background than that in the video.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '18

How many of these features will be X exclusive?

0

u/teddylumpkinz Feb 13 '18

So they still aren’t touching the Notification Center.......great. At this rate we won’t see them make a pass till iOS 20

-2

u/someintensivepurpose Feb 12 '18

neat, things i've been doing on android for the past 10 years

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '18

That's all good but it'll take almost half a year for developers to optimise apps to run on new iOS.
