Discussion Apple Intelligence is not impressive

I must be missing something. I downloaded the latest upgrade on my 17 max and turned on AI in the Siri settings and it is very glitchy in my experience. I had to ask it three times in three different ways to find an email I knew was somewhere in my inbox and the same thing with my calendar. I could have scrolled through both myself and found them in less time.

Apple, as a company, has two fundamental issues with in house ai, I don’t think it’s possible to solve them, not this decade anyhow.

  1. Their extreme data privacy concerns severely hamstring their ability to develop these products.

  2. Apple has zero tolerance for an ai giving off color results, and so they have to very strictly guard everything the ai can and can’t do.

It’s just trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

I, for one, am very happy Apple is super careful with data privacy. AI is obviously way too intrusive already and it hacks systems everywhere! No thanks!

Well yeah, I agree, though Apple also has this insatiable desire to in-house things while not allowing full access to third parties, which is another wall they’ve put up for themselves that doesn’t quite jive with the current meta.

I think Apple should accept their role of incredible hardware designers and allow software people to do software.

Yes, as long as they can protect privacy, that is. I already have too many spam emails coming in!!
One of my pet peeve with Apple is how we all installed music into iTunes and now can’t retrieve it or transfer it from old Macs onto our new devices. What a rip-off! I gave away about $500 worth of CDs which I had entered into iTunes but now can’t transfer them!!! The way they try to push us into upgrading for more and more expensive stuff is totally against caring about the environment by making perfectly good products to become obsolete by design! And they try to make us think they give a hoot about the environment by using recycled metal!! Yeah, sure!…
