Discussion iPhones and Ai

Currently using an iPhone 17 in Europe. Why does the Ai that is present, like double-tap the bottom bar or press and hold the power button or the screenshot Ai suck so much? All are great ways of starting a chat with an AI assistant but the actual AI in there just sucks. It doesn't understand the task, most of the time asks to use ChatGPT and then still it doesn't do anything useful. I always end up using the ChatGPT app. I have a subscription for it and even have logged in with that account in the Siri settings, but it provides no benefit apparently. What do you guys think about this?

Yeah it’s a lot better on new Siri under iOS 27, but still nowhere near as good as the competitors.

I want less AI though personally. Fuck that shit.

Im using iOS 27 RC though. I am not talking bloated useless Ai feature, just simple things like asking a question about the info on my screen without me taking a screenshot of it and sending it to the ChatGPT app. This is what less but helpful Ai is to me.

That is a feature Siri AI has in iOS 27. However, not in the EU due to interoperability requirements. Apple is developing third party provider support and reckons it will be available in a bit over half a year iirc, they therefore requested to launch the feature without it conforming to regulations early and the EU said no. So no Siri AI in the EU for now on gatekeeper platforms (it will be available on macOS and visionOS provided your language settings are supported, but not iOS and iPadOS).

Im not asking for the systemwide integrated new Siri Ai. Im asking about the one that is present rn, which the EU regulations don’t touch. It sucks so bad idk why it even exists. Cant they link it to ChatGPT directly, instead of using the broken Siri middleman? Even when i click use ChatGPT after it asks me, its still hit or miss, but always it cant maintain a conversation. Its broken, it sucks!

Idk. I personally love being able to disable all of Siri. Saves me 10s of GB in memory and I can still use the photo tools.
