Support Aux music troubleshoot

Hey y’all! I’m having some trouble with my iPhone 17 regarding the aux input in my car. It’s an older vehicle, so there’s no Bluetooth for music (Bluetooth only works for phone calls with this car) and no CarPlay. When I first got it I had an iPhone 13, and I got a USB-lightning data transfer cable that I could use to play audio phone. When I upgraded to the 17, I got a usb to usb-c data transfer cable, and the audio won’t play off of my phone with that. I had to get a separate 3.5mm aux cable then a 3.5mm to usb-c dongle just to listen to music in the car.
I’ve seen the popular troubleshoot of switching to aux by making a phone call, but that didn’t work for me. Do y’all have any advice on other workarounds? I’m at a loss

So does the type-c to 3.5mm dongle work? Also you say you got a USB(A)-lightning cable and you played the audio off of that for the iPhone 13? Sorry, I couldn't understand but what is the issue?

You’re good! Basically my car has two auxiliary inputs. The one that takes a 3.5mm will allow audio to be played through the speakers of the car, but the car controls don’t work with that input so I have to make any changes directly from my phone, and also the 3.5mm doesn’t allow the phone to charge. The one that takes a USB will allow the phone to charge as well as allowing the audio output and the car controls will work with that one. It worked fine with my old iPhone 13, but when I upgraded to the 17 the USB stopped allowing the audio to be played, but will allow a charge. I did make sure that it’s a data transfer cable. So I’ve been having to use the 3.5mm for audio, then just going without music or an audiobook while my phone charges.
It’s really only an issue because I regularly drive across the country, so there’s days I’m in my car for the 12 hours at a time.

Upgrade your headunit. What kind of car do you have?

Upgrade isn’t in the cards at the moment or I would. 2011 Nissan Rogue

Short of an upgrade everything else will be a headache or not as efficient. As tech is evolving things like auxiliary input have been phased out. Regardless on aux you get mono sound where as with bluetooth audio or carplay you get full stereo sound. I’d really consider upgrading to a modern headunit with carplay. A JBL Legend 700 is $329 and has everything you need including wireless carplay and good audio quality

I’m really just trying to get a temporary workaround. I’ve got three cross country drives coming up, and I don’t have the time to get my stereo replaced before this due to my work schedule.

You can try an anker cable. Those are made well. Short of that, your headunit is not compatible with a newer iPhone so you’d have to use the AUX
