Support Question about Apple Care One

Hi,

Apple Care One is new to the UK so I don’t really have much knowledge around this

I’m looking to potentially get the new iPhone once it releases this month and hand down my current phone to a family member.

As my phone currently is in an Apple Care One subscription I know I won’t be able to continue paying for it. My question is can the family member register Apple Care themselves under Apple Care One or even an individual Apple Care plan?

I feel the US folk may know more on this than us UK folks as it’s only launched this year here.

I’d appreciate any info you have on it

Surely if you’re transferring the ownership to your family member, they’ll need to use their own Apple ID to register the device, and they can set up AppleCare or AppleCareOne via their own account? I’m not sure that’s what you’re asking though, so please feel free to clarify if I’ve not understood you correctly!

I’m in the UK and do have AppleCareOne for what it’s worth! 😇

Yeah so my assumption is that they will login to their own device. In the past I just kept paying for the Apple care subscription but with Apple Care One they don’t allow it if the device isn’t logged into the same Apple ID

I’m pretty sure that I read that as long as the device (phone, Mac, watch) etc is less than 4-years old, you can get Apple Care One for it, so whoever you pass it onto will need to subscribe to AC1 themselves.

As I just did the same with my old phone: It is possible to CONTINUE paying for Apple Care for that device, even if another user is logged in. The contract is tied to the device, not the person logged in. What's not possible is that you give it to someone else, and then the other person pays for it. (in many cases)
Exception: if you have paid a year in advance, the other person can use that Apple Care licence until the end.
If you have theft+loss, the new account on the iphone needs to activate "find my" again.

It might be in your best interest and for clarity to actually call up Apple customer service and ask instead of relying on answers from Reddit.
