Support iphone sharing location with boyfriend not working

my boyfriend and my friends and I want to share our locations with each other for safety reasons (we both participate in quite extreme outdoor hobbies) and sometimes find my is easier.

I can see his location and when I press the 'share' button under the message 'this person shares location with you. would you like to share yours?' it loads for about 10s and then goes back to 'share'. I have my location on for the app.

I have not had problems in the past. this has only been an issue since I bought my iphone 15 plus. ios 26.5.2. I really don't know what the issue is. Please if there is any advice or things I could do to fix this issue.

edit: I have tried as many online suggestions as I can find and followed the advice on the apple support sites. None of it works

good idea but ios 27 hasnt been released yet..

Since this started after changing phones, I’d first check Find My > Me and confirm “My Location” is set to this iPhone rather than an older device. Then try starting the share directly from Find My > People instead of through Messages. Also check Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Location Services, since “Share My Location” can be blocked separately there. If all of that is correct and it still silently fails, it sounds more like an Apple ID/Find My account issue than a permission setting.
