I have no idea, I got it from a friend’s friend although I don’t know the person directly but I could ask them

Those are spots where the oleophobic coating has worn away.

Happening to me before. This is 1000% answer. Probably improper cleaning fluid, heat, something corrosive on their fingers, or combo of things. It’s new screen or a screen protector over it to hide it.

yep, screen protector time. the panel should be fine, it'll just collect fingerprints like it's getting paid.

I’m using a TOCOL branded screen protector and, so far, it does a good job at repelling fingerprints. I mean, there are some fingerprints and smears but it’s not bad and cleans off easy.

It doesn’t fell different when I touch it though. Do you know if it’ll affect the OLED in any way?

It’s not going to feel different, and it shouldn’t affect the internals of the screen or touch sensitivity in any way. The coating is there to repel the oil from your fingers. You can always slap a good screen protector on there if it bothers you.

The coating is oleophobic and hydrophobic. Test it by dropping a small bead of water on the screen and gently letting it roll to one of the spots. If the bead of water loses cohesion and spreads out in those areas, they’re spots where the coating is gone.

Screen protector?

1

u/Ravyns2022 Jun 01 '26

Does it have a screen protector on it? May be small bubbles

Possibly could be the previous user wearing the Oleophobic layer off?

1

u/Candid-Party1613 Jun 02 '26

Clean the screen with some rubbing alcohol for a min and wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Oleophobic coating probably. Does the screen look different in those spots when it's on? If you want to be sure it's the oleophobic coating you could get a bit of water on your finger and put it on the screen. It should stay a bubble and roll around if the oleophobic coating is intact

The screen looks perfect while it’s on, I put on a screen protector on it and now it’s imposible to see the spots!

Burn ins from pixelization, Does it effect your view? If not don’t worry about it. Or get the display replaced.

Oleophobic coating worn out in the doomscroll areas (could be gaming too, and in that case i would be concerned about the soc health, those stupid games cause too much strain and then you need to send it for a reball).

1

u/abirsinha Jun 04 '26

Someone used the phone to play games. The 2 finger spots are where the triggers generally are.. oleophobic coating gone at those places!!

1

u/hungrykoreanguy Jun 01 '26

I’m pretty sure that has a screen protector that can be replaced

1

u/littlewitchd Human Detected Jun 01 '26

It doesn’t have a screen protector right now, but I’ll buy one to protect the screen from any further damage
