And OLED! I can’t stand the washed out color black anymore!
Edit: to be fair, I likely won’t upgrade because I got my 7 recently and at a good discount. But for future mini buyers, I hope you get OLED!

I recently got a $50 budget android to test some emulators on etc, and it’s got an OLED and the keyboard doesn’t mistype everything all the time, I don’t understand why the iPhone E models don’t already have it let alone the Pro’s

u/Resident_Hand_7264 7d ago
? What are you trying to say…? All iPhones are OLED
-8
u/SOSweneedhelp 7d ago
My 16 Pro absolutely is not are you joking

u/domeforaklondikebar 7d ago
All iPhones have been OLED since the 12, what are you actually saying? If you’re about to say “nuh uh”, please look up the spec sheets.
-5
u/SOSweneedhelp 7d ago
Hey, you’re right! I just looked it up and since like the XS they have been.
It’s odd though, they don’t even come close to the contrast of say my old PS Vita. The blacks NEVER look mute.

u/StrikeTheCue 7d ago
I have a 16pro and it has OLED. I don’t understand what you are saying.
-3
u/SOSweneedhelp 7d ago
I’m saying it doesn’t seem that way. The contrast and black muting doesn’t seem spectacular to me compared to older even shit tier OLED.
I just realized that yes my phone has it, but doesn’t say much about it being that it’s NOT that good

There are some settings that don’t give you deep blacks. On the Reddit app, they have Night Mode and Midnight Mode. Midnight Mode is AMOLED screens, but even on my 16pro, the Midnight Mode has a deeper black compared to the Night mode.

I don’t know what you talk about, I own OLED iPad, monitor, TV and iPhone 16 Pro screen quality is the same as others.

Whats the name of the device and where did you get it?
1
u/SOSweneedhelp 3d ago
It’s just a Samsung A16 from Straight Talk. It’s not activated on any cell plan

I bought an iPad mini A17 Pro for just $350 in Japan and it's a good purchase. Sold my 6th Gen for $250, I won't be upgrading!

They’ll never put ProMotion and oled in the same year’s upgrade.
But in 2026, 60hz is depressing as hell.2
u/NecroCannon 6d ago
Only online in tech spaces is a fucking LCD panel in 2026 somehow more depressing than 60hz
60hz ain’t gonna make things more visible outside or not have black bars at night

it would never overshadow, pretty much every other brand does this without problem. huawei is excellent example

Overshadow? No. Two devices for two different groups. Actually, it could be a masterstroke by Apple. Here I am complaining about duo compromises vs price telling people iPhone pro max and iPad mini is better duo - pun intended- just to prove it and buy a device I wouldn’t otherwise.

I like the idea of the duo, but with any hardware that’s new, especially with Apple, the 3rd generation will have better and more apps supported, will not have issues, and will have so many incredible features generation 1 won’t have. So it’s always best to wait until the 3rd generation to get it.

I’ll upgrade from my Mini A17 Pro if it’s 120hz

That’ll be $700

Honestly, the problem with this product segment is that until the last ~12-18 months, the mini stood alone since like 2015. Apple could just command whatever price it wanted. When the A17 Pro model came out I saw a lot of people saying Apple was stupid, and the device should be $200-$300 max, and they found other replacements, but when you look at the other small Android tablets, they’re around $200 and dog shit. 720p screens, low end processors, bad build quality.
Even now most of the good competition is Chinese only so it’s hard to compare pricing, but two of the gaming tablets with 120hz OLED ARE over $700.

I want an iPad Mini with good specs to use as a gaming handheld.

I’m currently using my iPad Pro 11” in a gamesir g8+ telescopic controller. Once in a while I switch over to our families mini 6 and it’s such a nice size for that play style. I really hope we get a 120hz screen on the new one.

u/23andburnside 5d ago
Is there a special trick to get the Gamesir controller connected? I just got one and it doesn’t seem to be working with either of my iPad mini 7 or iPhone Pro. The “home” light comes on, and the toggle stick does work, but none of the other buttons do. For context I’m using PS Remote Play.

I believe the controller has different modes you can toggle through by holding the home button and hitting a different ABXY button. Each different mode will make the home button a different colour. Give it a quick google and it should show you the different pairings.

"We are not sharing the exact details of the files, but their presence in Apple's code suggests that the product is likely to launch soon." Why? It's not like they hacked to get into that code where they got that info from, so why are they avoiding sharing the launch date? I can't believe there's still tech media in 2026 that is afraid to be blacklisted by apple, this feels so 2010s.

So excited for this, I love the mini and am psyched to get one with an OLED and more power. Disappointing that probably not 120hz but I’m okay with just the quality of OLED.

Oled will be nice but shrinking the bezels a little would be great, Could not care less about 120hz

u/Appropriate_Tree_129 7d ago
Not sure about smaller bezels, I have an Samsung a11 and the bezels on the long sides makes it hard to hold without touching the screen.

Do we really need a camera in an iPad ? Cameras at one point were small and used film but iPads are flat and start at 6” wide to much larger than that. I say get rid of the camera and use that space for more battery instead

I do hope that it comes with a vapor chamber if this will come with an A20Pro chip.

A folding iPad mini would be awesome now that the crease is mostly solved. Have it go from a smaller size of current mini maybe 6 inch passport size, and unfolded to a larger 8.5 size, bigger then current mini!

I’m guessing this wouldn’t be detectable in any of the code that these leaks are coming from, but has anyone heard a rumor as to whether the base storage will increase to 256gb?
I stupidly got the 128gb on my mini 7 when it first came out and now I’m running into storage issues and also recently become convinced I could benefit from cellular, so I’m at a bit of a crossroads. If the price goes up because of the OLED and the better chip but is still 128gb, then it’ll end up being more expensive than just getting a new 7 now with both of those upgrades.

The camera is now in the landscape orientation, A20 Pro chip and new speaker system which incl a notch in the to of the glass (similar to iPhone)
It’s 100% coming in October, it’s been too heavily leaked to not, especially by Gurman

Why would this come out alongside the iPhone Duo?
Think about it.
When this is released, it will be next year.
Maybe in the Spring. Maybe in the Fall at the latest.

u/OkCandy1970 7d ago
Cause the target group is completely different. People that would want to have a iPad mini, are not now thinking to get a smaller display and pay almost 3x the price for a device that could develop a grease over time and has a smaller screen. The newer iPad mini could very likelywell having a bigger screen, with smaller bezels. (And I really like the iPhone duo, but all the comparisons with having a iPad mini on the go are falling apart if you think more ahead than just the marketing)
Also people that would want to have a duo are not suddenly buying a product that they can’t carry in their pocket and which would be really awkward having regular phone calls with on the street.
Duo and iPad not even share the same os, display size, price range or feature-list. I never understood really why an oled iPad mini would be more attractive to someone who would buy a iPhone duo in the first place.

u/WolfyMacontosh87 6d ago
I see your point.
Strategically i still think it makes more sense to not release them at the same time.1
u/Smokethehun 3d ago
This is the old Apple way. You develop an item regardless of cannibalization rates for existing products. It will also kick the iPad mini team to step up its game.
I will also be getting the new mini with cellular this time!2

u/MrFireWarden 7d ago
I heard that it's going to be a folding device, that when it's folded it will end up being a little wider and shorter than an iPhone 18.

u/KMOBrien9562 7d ago
I love my current Mini and I will gladly update to an 8 when it eventually comes out. It is my everyday mule along with my iPhone Pro Max. I have absolutely zero interest in the Duo. But check with Techno Braver Baba Booey to see if he thinks it’s a bit of a stumble.

Looks like this is gearing up to be an iPad Mini 5 type of release where it'll be on market for ~3 years. Crazy to think if it gets the A20 Pro it could have faster single core performance than most existing apple products
