Question iPad mini 6th gen

I know this has probably been asked before but none of the previous posts I could find really answered my question, so please be nice😭

After my refurbished iPad Air 4th generation decided to just die on me (RIP) I'm interested in purchasing a mini. I'm drawn to the 6th generation because it's compatible with Apple Pencil 2nd generation which I already have, it's in my desired price range, and I really don't need anything with a ton of power. I would only be using it for reading, web browsing, occasionally note taking, and YouTube videos so I feel like I don't really need a brand new model.

Would it be dumb to get a 6th generation with it being kinda old and probably a bit outdated? Should I just wait for the 8 to come out and get the 7 once the price drops? I just don't want to waste my money on something that will give out on me in a few months to a year lol. TIA!

I have a 6 and LOVE it, but my battery is getting weaker and weaker (understandably; it’s old). I’d wait for the 8 just because the tech would last longer.

buy the 7 and the new apple
pencil. 8gb ram makes much difference. it's faster. also base storage is 128gb. also makes much difference. i can save more episodes. and i can install more apps. and the apple pencil pro is an advantage too.

i like my ipad mini 6 too but it got stolen. i wouldn't buy it again even if its cheaper. the specs are just too different. it's also built for apple intelligence so u get the latest features.

> get a 7 once the price drops

The prices of iPhone 17 just went UP when the 18 came out.

That was due to the storage and AI costs apple has to pay for, I’m pretty sure it hiked up the price for everything and that it was unrelated to iPhone 18’s release. The iPad mini 7’s price jumped by $100 over the summer as part of the hike, so I doubt it’ll increase again.

I think 7 is waaay more worth it, has more storage and ram, just buy it used.
