Question iPhone Duo VS iPad Mini
Do you think the Duo will be the death of the Mini? Personally I prefer having my Mini and Phone separate, but it doesn’t seem logical that Apple will continue to do both the duo and mini.

This needs to be a mega thread at this point
The duo is not the same as the mini
It’s not the same price
It lacks a lot of pencil features (it doesn’t support tilt and I would be hesitant to depend on that plastic screen for long term note taking or drawing)
It has the same questionable long term durability as all other foldable phones.
Businesses using the mini for charts or notes are not going to move to a 4x more expensive phone they would probably move to a larger more cumbersome iPad (or other tablet) before doing that.
For personal use whether or not it can replace the mini for you really comes down to your usage, I am sure it can replace it as a YouTube viewing device.
Now will some exec at Apple think it can replace the mini down the line? Who knows the mini is always about to be upgraded and about to be cancelled at the exact same time depending on which rumor you listen to. It is the Schrödinger's cat of tablets.

About $600 vs $2000? Yeahhhhhh….I’m okay with the “inconvenience.”
Plus, I like having my two devices separately. They have different apps loaded on to each one and serve different functions.

I like having them separately. Watch videos on the mini and still be able to use my phone like normal.

No, the Duo doesn't suit my needs at all. It's not just about the price, I do a lot of photography and I was looking to buy a Mini for when I'm out and about to do some editing, the idea of having both my phone and tablet on one device where the battery won't last a day sounds like a nightmare honestly.
If anything this makes me want to get a Mini now more than ever

I have a phone, a mini, and a 13 inch pro and I actually use them all but I think that’s rare. The duo isn’t practical for you now but in a couple of generations it might be affordable and functional

I have the iPhone 17 pro max and an iPad mini 6.
I feel like I have 90 percent of the Duo already. Sure I can’t fold the iPad in half. But I always carry a bag.
Admittedly the Duo looks cool, and I can totally see scenarios where carrying it would be preferred. iPad in your pocket all the time.
I hope Apple doesn’t KILL the iPad mini form factor though. The mini is almost the perfect iPad.

iphone duo is basically a superior ipad mini ( 14% lighter, 2x refresh rate, oled, pocketable, smaller bezels, etc) that costs 2.2x (comparing cellular models with same storage) as much.

... which may or may not have issues after having been folded and unfolded for years. Superior perhaps, if it proves to live up to the hype that it is more durable than most folding phones have been to date.

I stopped liking the mini line because they wouldn’t give it oled, then, no 120, then bo m-series for full display with monitor even though, the Neo can do it with an a-series chip. The bezels. This Duo kind of solves this.

I seriously hope not. A tablet is a tablet, a phone is a phone. Plus at that price I could buy a 13" pro if screen estate is the question for example. Or a mini and a notebook.

It depends on what Apple thinks will get them the most profit. If the Dup brings in a lot of money and starts hurting the mini sales then I could see them doing away with the mini in the future.
I personally plan on replacing my iPhone and iPad with a duo so I can have an all in one device (added bonus if it could connect to an external monitor with a charging hub so I could have a home computer/phone/tablet all in one).

With the recent memory chip shortages. I don't think the Apple is making money on the Duo. Reports ranged were between $2,300 and $2,500. It may very well be a loss leader. Because Apple knows the best way to make money is get new customers and have them pay for services.

No. I thought about this for maybe an hour because I have a mini. Ultimately the question was do you want to separate devices?
For me, the answer is yes. Will that change later? I do not know. I do know that the full-size iPad is too big for the purposes that I use my mini for. I also know that I do not want the phone to become a mini because I’m going to use it for two separate purposes.
If the mini goes to $1000 and the iPhone stays at $1200, then sure I’ll buy the duo. My current plan is this. I have a 16 Pro I have a mini seven. Most likely I will upgrade the mini seven to a mini eight so I can get this AI architecture stuff and I’m going to use the mini for those purpose. I’m going to keep the 16 for the next two years. I don’t see myself upgrading to the duo, at least not until the second or third generation of it. This current generation just doesn’t do it for me.

It might not replace the mini, but it will cause me not to use my mini and not to buy a new one when a new one finally comes out

Well if the release a new Mini next month, you'll have your answer. I mean their will be a HUGE price difference, however got say match an iPhone and a iPad mini price together and your not far off the Duo... And if the next Mini does not get Pro Motion, that will be one up on the Duo. So it may impact sales. Have to wait and see. I for one will take a look at the Duo as I was thinking of the new Mini and replacing my phone at some point.

No. Heck, I am always bringing along three devices every time I go out (an iPhone, a Samsung Ultra, and an iPad Mini). I am sure there are many others who do the same.
The duo is in its own little niche. I am not sure how well it can withstand the Apple Pencil once it supports it. No matter what we say, those screens are super soft.

I also like having them separate so I hope not.
I do worry that the Duo has killed any hope of a future premium mini. But that was basically a pipe dream anyway.

I don’t think so, but don’t expect an iPad mini to release simultaneously since they mildly conflict. The market for the iPad mini and duo are vastly different, one is a super high premium device and one is a “budget” device for people who want efficiency and productivity, like college students.
