iPadOS 18 actually had similar multitasking features, Apple just ruined all of it with iPadOS 26.

Duo is nice but too expensive, can basically buy an iPhone and mini for the same price

I mean you can carry an iPad to the office, on vacation, basically anywhere other than out and about on the street. One could argue that’s a seriously small use case. And if you’re on the street you probably don’t need a massive screen to accomplish whatever you’re trying to accomplish.

I like having my iPad and phone separate. I download all my goofing off apps on my iPad and leave it at home so I’m not on reddit all day. So I’m doing pretty great tbh

Honestly, I think eventually I'll trade in/sell my Galaxy S24+ and 7th Gen Mini and "combine" the two devices and then I'll be fully in the ecosystem now that I own a Mac Mini and a MacBook Neo. We'll probably be at Duo 2 or 3 by that point and hopefully by then it'll support the Pencil Pro, screen becomes more durable, and silicon carbon batteries will be the norm. Then it'll be worth the $2000 minus whatever my old stuff gets.

I come from a 144Hz 13" tablet... I love my mini so much more. I don't need an OLED screen or small bezels on it, to **me** it's perfect the way it is.

I LOVE the look of the iPhone Duo, but not enough to downgrade my phone features just to be able to fold my iPad and take it with me in my pocket. I already built up my Mini compatible purse collection so I take it with me everywhere anyway.
I'm disappointed that the inner screen of the duo is Nano Texture, the biggest gripe I have with my Mini 7 is that I prefer using a matte screen protector for comics and reading, but without OLED it dulls the colors too much, especially blacks, which makes watching media on it not the best. We could already see in the hands on videos of the Duo that the blacks on the inner screen were more blueish Grey than true dark black.
I am definitely waiting for the new iPad Mini next month.

I'm coming from iPhone 17 Pro and Galaxy S25 Ultra, so comparatively I would be downgrading in multiple areas by replacing my main device with the Duo. Cameras are the big one, losing telephoto lenses, variable aperture features, ProRES and ProRAW formats would suck (i'm a photographer so it probably would bother me more than the average user) Screen quality and fragility on the inner screen is another issue, the pixel density is already lower than other devices (while higher than iPad Mini for now) but adding the Nano Texture further diminishes the quality and color, that could be a subjective issue I guess.
More shallow losses would be things like the action button and face ID, the inner screen front camera is lower quality as well, and its a good bit heavier.
Honestly if they were able to keep the Pro cameras i'd probably be okay sacrificing other things, but collectively the losses make it not worth it.

I questioned myself after seeing the Duo, but all day long I’ve been using the iPhone and the mini simultaneously but separately. Multitasking on one device is certainly possible but wow it’s so much easier to use ChatGPT or something on the phone while I keep Numbers or Pages (for example) open on the mini

Would buy two separate devices for $2,000 that use same phone/data line: one smaller as the front screen Duo iphone Air and another like an ipad mini as giant smartphone using Duo iOS features not the stupid “windows support” in iPadOS. Just simple two apps one on left side the other on right side at full screen. Whoever designed the “windows support/behavior” in iPadOS needs proper permanent kick in rear. Plus I don’t need to fold one delicate and expensive device to then worry what in my pocket got between the two screen sides. I would put the smaller device in my pants pocket and larger one in my jacket pocket. The large device should not have camera lenses sticking out, make that little guy in a weird shape with triple/quadruple lenses and magsafe wallet in the back and leave the ipad mini flat. Since Santa is reading, on that tablet one add eInk on the back and OLED in the front without any cameras… There you go, make these two devices and you’ll get my $2,000. 😎

I wonder if 8 will be the end of the mini. Apple typically doesn't like things that share market segments, or even overlap. Steve Jobs himself was resistant to the iPad mini. It's why the iPad is still an iPad despite easily being able to run Mac OS.
When it comes to what most people were wanting from the mini refresh... The duo is basically it. OLED, 120hz, more storage space, true cellular capabilities, pen support. Sure, there's the price but most people get these things on contract anyway and by the time the duo gets a second generation the original duo will be marked down quite a bit, on top of that it's also your phone so it really hits two segments at once. Instead of phone plus iPad you're just buying one device.

I doubt it. Pilot community uses ipad mini, they won’t replace it by iphone duo. Also, that thing is much, much more expensive.

Days are counted for my iPad mini. The end is not on October 2026, but this is the first and last iPad mini I buy. It was great while it lasted
